WOOD posted by David Moore on Monday, August 3, 1998

I am searching for information on the WOOD family of Orange county, VA.  My ancestor is J.O. WOOD born 3-1849.  He married a Hannah E. also of VA.  She was born 8-1841.  I believe this to be his second wife who was 'affectionately' called "old miss."  J.O. was also known as Captain Jerry which leads me to believe the J was for Jeremiah or something like that.  On J.O.'s death record from Montgomery County, KY his father is listed as Robert WOOD.  I have searched all the Richard WOODs listed in the census and all the WOODs in Orange county and cannot find them.  My grandmother said her mother, J.O.'s daughter, used to travel from Bath County, KY to Orange County, Va to visit her grandfather, presumed to be Richard.  Can anyone shed any light on this.  It is giving me a headache. Thanks, Dave

WEBB posted by Larry Loiselle on Monday, August 3, 1998

I am seeking any additional information that you can add to these families.  Thanks a million. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB1 was born about 1765 in Ireland?.  It is possible that he came to North Carolina via Orange County, VA.  In 1880 his son, Elias, said that his father, Pleasant was born in Ireland.  He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around 1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford County, North Carolina.  In 1803 he was in Scioto County, Ohio and was said to be a notorious character, said to be a Tory during the Revolutionary War.  Pleasant was in Greenup County, Kentucky in 1820 and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830, he did not appear in the 1840 census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB and Unknown (Margaret?) BLACKWELL had the following children: Elias WEBB, James WEBB, Hanley WEBB, Aden WEBB, William WEBB, Margaret WEBB, Baker WEBB, Sarah (Sally) WEBB, and Temperance WEBB.

COOK, SISK posted by Linda Lee Sisk Weary on Wednesday, August 5, 1998

My brother (Charles Richard Sisk, Jr.) and I (Linda Lee Sisk Weary) are just beginning to try and research our father's family history.  We know little.  Dad was Charles Richard SISK.  He was born in True Blue, Orange County, Virginia on 6 March 1924  -  died 29 April, 1980 in Culpeper, Va. His father was Charles Addie SISK.  All we know about him is that he married Beulah Nicholas COOK  (I think in 1919) and died when my dad was 3 years old which would make his death date around 1927.  She worked in the True Blue area after his death  trying to support her children.  He had been married before with children from that marriage also, but I don't know if Beulah or the other wife had them.  She later moved to Culpeper and remarried. If you have any information about these names or other Sisk names we would greatly appreciate any help in our research.   Thanks, and God Bless you.

SHERIDAN posted by Esbend F. Sheridan on Monday, August 17, 1998

I am searching for the husband of Sealey SHERIDAN age 50 as listed on the 1850 Georgia Census. Her children were listed as William J. Sheridan age 25, Oliver J. Sheridan age 19, Henry Marion Sheridan age 16 and a girl Tryphena Sheridan age 14. Sealey and William were born in South Carolina and the rest were born in and around Franklin County, Georgia. Henry and Oliver moved to Alexander or Bauxite, Arkansas where they had children and died. It is possible that Sealey got married in Orange County since part of her family resided there. I am looking for those that did not move to Arkansas and the wives of Henry Marion Sheridan except Ann Hoover and Minerva A. Sheridan.
