Audrey S. Brill
Audrey Lee Shelton Brill, 77, of Stanardsville, died April 7, 2002, at her
residence. Born October 7, 1924, she was a daughter of the late George William
Shelton and Pearl Bickers Shelton. Mrs. Brill was also preceded in death by her
husband, James Hunley Brill; a brother, Lloyd Shelton and two sisters, Geneva
Shelton and Louise Shelton Cornell. She retired in 1989 from Greene County
Department of Social Services.
Survivors include two sons, James Hunley Brill, Jr. and his wife, Diane, and
William Shelton Brill and his wife, Dedris; a daughter, Barbara Brill Berry and
her husband, Greg; two nieces, Stephanie Lynn Brill and Janet Cornell; a nephew,
Jay Shelton; her grandchildren, Chip Deane, Paul Berry, Susan Berry Sullivan,
Brent Shifflett and Carla Shifflett and great-grandchildren, Jamie and Amanda
Deane and Alex Sullivan.
The funeral service was private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops
Place, Suite 200, Charlot-tesville, Virginia.
Clore-English Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Virginia T. Hill
Virginia Thompson Hill, 88, of Stevensburg died Friday, April 5, 2002, at
her residence. Born September 21, 1913, in Wellsbridge, New York, she was a
daughter of the late Rev. William Mayfield Thompson and Marguerite Mae Daniel
Thompson. Mrs. Hill graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1933.
Throughout her adult life she was active professionally both as an educator and
musician, while at the same time she was a homemaker. Before her marriage in
1940, she taught English and music in Amherst County and in Alexandria. Later
taught English, forensics and drama at Culpeper County High School, teaching 27
years. She was a minister of music at Culpeper Baptist Church, a member of
Stevensburg Home Demonstration Club and the American Association of University
Women. She was named “Mother of the Year” for Culpeper County in 1954, by
Business and Professional Women’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John
Sanford Hill; two grandchildren, David Wayne Andrews, Jr. and Susan Elizabeth
Schreiner and a son-in-law, James Whittier Lewis.
Survivors include five children, Lee Hill Andrews of England, Anne Hill
Schreiner and her husband, Clyde Mathias Schreiner, of Largo, Florida, Jean
Sanford Hill of Claremont, California, John Sanford Hill, Jr. and his wife,
Carolyn Cole Hill, of Wichita Falls, Texas and William Ward Hill and his wife,
Lynne Elaine Hill, of Madison; 14 grandchildren, Daniel Patrick Andrews, Kurt
Edwin Schreiner, John Michael Schreiner, Paul Richard Schreiner, Mary Kathryn
Valdez, Randolph Harrison Watts, Jr., Julia Harrison Watts, Stephanie Lynne
Drury, Jennifer Kristin Hill, John Sanford, III, Benjamin Ward Hill, Rebecca
Lynne Hill, William Cary Hill and Peter Lee Hill, all of Madison and two
great-grandchildren, Judah Crutial Drury and Jonathan Hill Schreiner.
A memorial service was held April 9 at Culpeper Baptist Church with Dr. Ted
Fuson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society,
P. O. Box 1747, Culpeper, VA 22701.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Culpeper, was in charge of arrangements.
Edna W. Nicholson
Edna Dorccas Weakley Nicholson, 74, of Orange, died Sunday, April 7, 2002.
Born August 2, 1927, in Culpeper County, she was a daughter of the late Waverly
Madison Weakley and Virgie Knighting Weakley. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Nicholson was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold McKinley Nicholson;
a daughter Marjorie Edna Nicholson and two sisters, Carrie Ella Smith and
Mildred Jane Weakley.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne Harold Nicholson of Barboursville, Stevie
McKinley Nicholson of Richmond and Mark Andrew Nicholson of Rhoadesville; two
sisters, Lillie Elizabeth Weakley Dyer of Orange and Nellie Clore of Madison; a
number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held April 10, at North Pamunkey Baptist Church of which
she was a member. The Rev. Jeff White officiated.
Pallbearers were deacons of the church.
Mary E. Rollins
Mary Elizabeth Rollins, 50, of Madison, died April 9, 2002, at her
residence. Born July 15, 1951, in Charlottesville, she was a daughter of the
late Roy Dunnivan. Mrs. Rollins was employed by Ridgid-Kollmann of Orange.
Survivors include her mother, Eleanor Knight Dunnivan of Madison; her husband,
William Rollins of Orange; two sons, Michael L. Rollins and friend, Stephanie
Henry and Brandon M. Rollins, of Orange; two brothers; Royce W. Dunnivan and
wife, Linda, of Raleigh, North Carolina and Bruce Dunnivan and wife, Karen, of
Ruckersville; two sisters, Beverley Knighton and husband, Dale, and Robin
Clatterbuck and husband, Cary, all of Madison and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, at 2 p.m. from Preddy Funeral
Chapel, Orange, with interment in Madison Memorial Gardens. Pastor Jeff
Shifflett will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at
the funeral home.
Pallbearers named are Jeffrey Knighton, Robert Harvey, Keny Helbert, Bill
Miller, Wayne Knight, Monty Dunnivan, Greg Clark and Adam Henry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the
Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
Harold E. Tuel
Harold Edward (Kojak) Tuel, 79, of Leon, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at his
residence. Born May 26, 1922, in Culpeper County, he was a son of the late Harry
Lee Tuel and Anna Mildred Spicer Tuel. Mr. Tuel was a veteran of the United
States Army, retired from Culpeper County Police Department and was currently
employed at Prince Michel Vineyard and Omni Services, Inc., as a security guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth
Tuel; a grandson, Anthony Shore; four brothers, William, Doc, James and Jimmy
Tuel and a sister, Evelyn Tuel.
Surviving are two daughters, Robena Mae Britton of Leon and Lillian Carol Peel
of Culpeper; a son, Tim Martin of Alexandria; a brother, Gene Allen Tuel of
Culpeper; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held April 10 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Culpeper
with interment in Fairview Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper
American Legion Post 330 and Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
Pallbearers were Eugene Zones, Jackie and Wayne Shore, Rick Brown, Teddie,
Steven and Thomas Backe and Rocky Peters.
Mildred J. Weakley
Mildred Jane Weakley, 90, of Orange, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at her
residence. Born October 30, 1911, in Madison County, she was a daughter of the
late Waverly Madison Weakley and Virgie Knighting Weakley. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Carrie Ella Smith and Edna
Weakley Nicholson; three brothers, Madison Weakley, Vander Lewis Weakley and
Nelson Weakley. She was a retired farmer and an ordained minister, a member of
Lake Anna Pentecostal Church and attended Wolftown Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Lillie Elizabeth Weakley Dyer and husband, O’Coy
L. Dyer of Orange and Nellie Clore of Madison and a number of nieces and
nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m. from Preddy Funeral
Chapel, Orange, with interment in Etlan Cemetery, Madison County. The Rev.
Sheldon Nierman and Pastor Jeff Shifflett will officiate.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
