Formation of Patrick County, Virginia
Legislative Enactment (created by law) 1790
Formed (Records Began) 1791

Counties, although ordered by 'the gentleman justices' to be formed, could not
do so until they had sufficient population to support
both a "justice" and a "court" and become a place of record.
Raymond W. Ryan, Jr.

In this chart you may see two dates.
The first is when the county was created by law and the second is when the county was formed and records began.
If the county was created by law and formed in the same year there will be one date.
