On this 12th day of January 1837 personally appeared in open court before the County Court of Patrick now sitting Archibald McHone a resident of the County of Patrick in the State of Virginia, aged ninety two years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832–
That he

That this affiant volunteered in the County of Bedford in the State of Virginia in the company of Capt. Robert Adams in the fall of the year 1780 and marched off immediately with said company to Petersburg in the State of Virginia where he thinks he was attached to the command of Genl Lafayette who remained encamped there some time now and then making a sally into the neighborhood. that this affiant remained there and thereabouts some two or three months and being disbanded returned home having served during this tour at least three months.
This affiant being a minute man was again called on in the month of July 1781 and marched in the company of Capt Charles Callaway from Bedford County in the state of Virginia, down James river to Old Jamestown where they crossed said river and marched thence on to Little York, at which place they arrived just as the battle commenced and continued there through the battle which was in the month of August and which lasted several days. This affiant was twice wounded in that battle once by being knocked down by a bombshell and once by a small piece of a bomb kicking[?] into his hip. He saw the French fleet lying in the river commanded as he was told by Count D’Estaing. He also saw and knew Genl. Washington and Genl. Lafayette. But from his great age and consequent loss of memory, the names of many of the Continental and Militia officers have entirely escaped his recollection. This affiant served during the last tour having remained at Little York some considerable time more that three months in addition to the time served as before mentioned.
He got discharges for both tours but supposed that they could be of no service to him after keeping them many years suffered them to be lost. That he has no documentary evidence and knows of no person whose testimony he could procure who can testify to his service. He further states he was born in the County of New Kent in the state of Virginia in the year 1745 and was taken by his parents from New Kent to Bedford County when he was about two years old in the year 1747 at which place he remained until after the close of the revolution at which time having lived as heretofore stated he removed to the County of Stokes N. Carolina where he continued occasionally doing business in that County and Patrick Va as a carpenter until within five or six weeks ago he moved to the County of Patrick in the state of Virginia he being now entirely unable to work or do anything towards his support–
He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity, except the present, and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the Agency of any state. Sworn to and subscribed the day and year aforesaid– Archibald his X mark McHone
