Pension Application of Elisha Arnold: S6523

State of Virginia  Henry County to Wit

            On this 10th day of September 1832 personally appeared in open Court before the County Court of Henry, now sitting Elisha Arnold a resident of the County of Henry aforesaid aged seventy four years who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June the 7th 1832.

            That he was born in the County of Mecklenburg Virginia in the year seventeen hundred & fifty eight and enlisted in a company in the County of Lunenburg in the same state in the month of February or March 1776. he does not rembers the month  commanded by Capt James Johnson – for the term of two years. that he marched in the said company from Williamsburg in the said state of Virginia to within a few miles of New York attached to the 6th Virginia Regiment, which was attached to the Brigade commanded by General [Edward] Stevens. that he was in the battle of Germantown [4 Oct 1777]. and his regiment was in the battle of Trenton [26 Dec 1776] but owing to sickness he was not in the engagement  he says that he knew Genel Washington. Genl Stevens. Colo Dicksen[?] in the Regular Service. that he was marched to Vally Forge where on the 23d day of March 1778 he received his discharge which is hereto annexed & which he asks may be considered a part of this his declaration. He says further that he removed in the year 1797 seventeen hundred & ninety seven to the County of Franklin & in the year 1801 or 1802 to the county of Henry where he has continued to reside until this time. That he is acquainted with General John Dillard & Colo Joseph Martin. Major John Redd, Anthony M Duprey Esqr.  William Barron. George Gravely of the County of Henry with the Honble N [middle initial illegible] Claiborne of the County of Franklin and many other persons which he deems unnecessary to name. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State, or (if any) only on the agency of the State of Virginia

Te bearer hereof Elisha Arnold a Soldier in the 6th Virginia Regt having served his term of enlistment is hereby dischared from the service.  [signed]             Chas. Lewis Colo. Comm
