QRYTEXT: I am researching the CORN family line from Patrick Co. VA and how Susan Corn , who married an Elijah Bruster in Pike Co., IN 1839 is descended. Also, what possible connection she, her relatives, or the Brusters have to my gg grandfather Origin Robinson (b. 1844). I can not find Origin's parents as he was indentured at the age of 12 and I can find no previous record of him. In fact, the first record I have of him is his Civil War enlistment on the Union side in 1861. These records show him born in Crawford Co., IN. But so far no luck in connecting him to anyone. Family tradition says he had half-brothers by the Brusters (via Green Co. KY and Tazwell Co. VA) and that he was part Native American. I found Elijah Bruster in Pike Co. IN with connections to the Corns and Robinsons so I think I have the right connection but can't find Origin. It would help to know something about the Corn family history. I think Baptist missionary work with the Cherokee Indians may be part of the puzzle. Gwen.

Burris, Poore
I have roots in the Patrick County Area, but its awfully difficult to learn anything about the pre-1800 era. I badly want to know anything about my 5th generation grandfather, WILLIAM BURRIS (b.about 1764-d.ap 23, 1846) married SARAH POORE. William's father may have also been named William. They may have spelled their name BURRUS. William (1764) is buried in Winchester, Ohio, Jackson County. There is one possible account that William's son indicated he was born in Stokes County, NC, very near the state line. I wonder if the William Burris buried in York County, SC, a verteran of the Rev. War, might be my William's father? Anybody with any help about this missing link in my family line, please contact me. Paul B. Burris, S. Carolina.

Corn, Slaughter
Can someone please help: Samuel CORN m. Susannah SLAUGHTER [b. 1790] 13 May 1819 in Patrick County. I do not have an 1820 census for this couple. 1830 census of Patrick County shows a Samuel CORN (age 40 - 50), female (age 30 - 40); with several young people, some of whom cannot be their children and I can only guess at the relationships. My problem lies in that there is also, in this census year and on the same page, a listing for a Susannah CORN (age 40 - 50). Is this Susannah SLAUGHTER? Samuel's sister, a sister-in-law, cousin, no relation? Can anyone clarify for me? Laurie Aubrey laubrey@cybernet1.com

I am searching for my g-g-grandfather's family, JOHN MOBBS(MABE-MABES) who married MINCEY (MINSEY) BOWLING(BOULING-BOULDING) in PCVA in 1815. The MOBBS (MABE-MABES) family stayed in PCVA for years and were on the 1820 and 1830 census. This family was later found in WILSON CO, TN. without MINCEY who may have died in PCVA. I have found that the name was probably written incorrectly due to the phonetic sound of MOBBS. I have tracked most of the children of this union, but some may have stayed in PCVA as MABE family. CLARK
John CLARK, Sr. was born c1750. He probably died in Patrick County or one of the surrounding counties. He married Susanna REYNOLDS, and possibly had another wife by the name of Sarah. Please see my REYNOLDS query for more information on Susanna REYNOLDS as I am not sure that this is really her maiden name. Known children of John CLARK, Sr. are Elizabeth who married William WELLS, William about whom nothing else is known, and John CLARK Jr who married Elizabeth WRIGHT. Possible children include Jesse CLARK who married Lucy PEDIGO and Frances "Frankey" who married Thomas BARTLETT. This is as far back as I have been able to trace my CLARK line. Since CLARK is my maiden name, I would really like to know more about them. If you have any information on Patrick County CLARK's, I'd be grateful to hear from you as I am keeping notes on all the CLARK's that lived in Patrick prior to 1900. Thanks for your help! Jeannie

REYNOLDS, CHILES, CLARK
Polly REYNOLDS married Henry CHILES in 1794 in Patrick County. Giving permission for her daughter to marry was Susannah CLARK. I believe this to be the Susannah who married my John CLARK, Sr. Family tradition states her name as Susannah REYNOLDS, but this makes me wonder if perhaps she was a widow when she married my John CLARK, or if perhaps she had Polly out of wedlock and really was a REYNOLDS by birth. John CLARK was born c1750, so that should give some idea of the age of Susannah. Family rumor has it that John may have also married a Sarah, but of course that could be a nickname for Susannah. If you have any information that you think might help me, please contact me! Thanks, Jeannie

RAKES
It has recently come to my attention that there are two RAKES lines in Patrick County, and I believe them to be related. I believe that Charles RAKES, Sr. of c1745 was most likely the brother of William RAKES. William was born 1760 in Ireland. Since Charles was born most likely prior to that, I think it is safe to assume that he was also born in Ireland. Charles raised a large family in Patrick County, too large in fact to go into detail here, but you can find that information on my web site at http://www.trellis.net/users/madamx or you can email me. I descend from Charles. William has two sons that I know of, Anthony RAKES who married Sarah and secondly Mary "Nancy" Oaks, and Elisa RAKES who married Agnes unknown. Chesley RAKES is a descendant of William RAKES, so I would very much like to find information to either prove or dispute that Charles and William are brothers so that I can claim all the Chesley RAKES descendants as my cousins. If you have any information at all on the RAKES of Patrick County, please contact me! Thanks, Jeannie

COCKRAM, HUBBARD, RAKES -
Did Charles RAKES leave a will dated 23-MAY-1835, probate 24-NOV-1838? If so, where? It is my opinion that it was Charles RAKES, Sr. who m Nancy HUBBARD in 1827 , in his old age. For it to have been a Jr., he would be marrying long after his brothers and sisters, the latest being in 1815. The 1830 Patrick Co, VA cen shows Charles RAKES as 80-90 yrs old, and a female 40-50 yrs old - I believe this is his 2nd wife Nancy HUBBARD. (Wife Jane would have been closer in age to Charles, I think.) Is there any proof that there was a Charles RAKES, Jr., or is it an assumption because of that marriage record? Speaking of Jane, any clues as to her maiden name? Seems the Native American tradition extends to RAKES and COCKRAM wives, all my kin. Any help would be appreciated.
