Anyone who can crack the door of information on my great grandfather, it would be greatly appreciated. Footnote: I've seen different spellings of the Stegall name, some Stigall and others as Steagall, I don't which correct and this may be what has brought to this dead end.

I'm researching a Nancy Payne, born about 1755, who married Gabriel Richards of Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1774. The marriage took place in Milton, Caswell, North Carolina, just over the border of Pittsylavania County.
There is a will of John Payne in the Pittsylavania County, Virginia, Abstracts of Wills 1768-1800, dated 24 November 1786 and probated 15 May 1781, that has William Durret as one of the executors and Gabriel Richards as a witness and provider of security. Nancy Payne is not cited, although William, Samuel, Josha, Rhoda, Charles, Rueban, and John, along his with wife, Elizabeth, are cited. Elizabeth was his second wife. The name Rhoda reappears later in the Gabriel Richards genealogy.
The 1787 census of Pittsylvania County cites Gabriel Richards, William Durrett and John Payne. The Pittsylvania County Deed Book mentions: 25 August 1768 John Payne of Goochland County; 18 June 1770 John Payne the elder of Goochland; and, on 23 June 1773 John Payne Sr. of Pittsfield County.
Any information about this Nancy Payne would be appreciated.

I am seeking anyone having information about my grandfather, James Allison Murphy - 11/25/1863(??) - 9/30/1926. He was born in Southwest Virginia - probably Pittsylvania County. His parents died when he was a child leaving him and his sister, two years his senior, named Nanny or Nancy. An Aunt and Uncle took James and the sister. He ran away from home as a teenager - lived in various areas of the country and eventually married my grandmother in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1920. My mother was born in 1923 and James died of a heart attack when she was three. My grandmother asked few questions about his past and a fire the week of his death destroyed all his personal possesions and records. However, he had kept in contact with the sister. I would appreciate anyone in the Pittsylvania County area who might have information about a missing ancestor. Thanks for any possible help. We have been searching for years

I am looking for information about Rev. Abraham Lincoln Mack and his wife, Mary Simms Mack. Both died in Chatham, Va. Abraham died in 1966 or 67 and Mary died in 1965. They had nine children: Anthony, John, Virginia, Moriah, Estella, Mary, Sally, Carleese, and Lilly. Rumor has it that Abraham had a brother named George Washington Mack who had some children. Two of those children are known to be Thelma and Frances. Abraham was a minister at the New Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church in Chatham. He may have retired from the ministry in the 1960's. Much is not known about Mary, other than she may have been from North Carolina. Both are thought to have come to Chatham from Charlotte Courthouse, Virginia.
