I am trying to find a MR RUSSELL who died about 1800-1814 in Pittsylvannia County Va. JANE TURLEY married a MR RUSSELL and had several children by him. She is listed on her fathers estate settlement in Pitts Co as JANEY RUSSELL her place of residence is Kanawha County in 1813. But she is head of house in 1810 with several small children a couple in fact 0-10. So I assume MR RUSSELL passed on. Her entire family moved to Kanawha Co so I guess she moved with them after MR RUSSELL departed this world sometime around 1800 or maybe a year or so before. I would appreciate any help or suggestions about this missing man. Thanks

I have William Kearney Hall's book on the Perkins family, Descendants of Nicholas Perkins. I am looking for more infomation on James Perkins son of Peter Perkins or 3321 - 1 in the WHK book. I have not been in a library in VA in 16 years so I wonder if anyone has found out more about this James Perkins. I suspect that he was the father of Robert Perkins who is not listed in the WHK book and who was present in the Caswell Cty NC federal census returns from 1820 -1850. This Robert born 1785 in VA (1850 census) was the father of my great grandfather James Robert Perkins according to the family bible. This James Robert was well documented as Lt in 38th Va infantry and was living in Chatham VA according to the 1860 census, however he was born in Caswell Cty NC. If you could steer me to any information I would greatly appreciate it.

I am seeking information on the MILITARY PRISON during the American Revolution in Peytonsburg, which was formerly the county seat of Halifax, a small settlement in the eastern part of Pittsylvania Co. Are there any records in Pittsylvania Co. of theses prisoners and/or does anyone have information on documents which might provide this information?
My g-g-g-grandfather, CONRAD CRAIN (Americanized spelling), who died in Pittslyvanial Co. in 1817 (and whose wife was Elizabeth?) was thought to have been born in Prussia and to have come to the Colonies as a Hessian soldier. Therefore, in my search for his background, I am pursuing the possibility that he may have been taken prisoner and stayed in the county after his release.

February 1, 1997 from Elizabeth Waller Kurtz
David George Waller, born 2-20-1803 in Pittsylvania, died 12-3-1884 in Texas, married (1) Mildred Slaydon 11-25-1826 (2) Ellender E. Brashears 1864 in Tennessee.
David's father is supposed to be:
Jonas B. Waller, b. 1770/1, d. 2-20-1815 both in Pittsylvania, married to Mary (Polly) Madding.
There is a question as to Jonas' parents being Zachariah Waller and wife Dianah. Zachariah's parents are said to have been John Waller and wife Ann. The only John Waller (1714-1775) and Ann that I can find are he and Ann Bowker. This John (4th clerk of Spotsylvania court) is the son of William Waller (3rd clerk of the Spotsylvania court).
I recently found reference to a John Waller who married a Miss Walters of Pittsylvania. This John Waller was supposedly the son of William Edmund Waller and Mildred Smith. William Edmund is grandson to Col. John Waller, but I have no reference to a John being his son out of 9 children I have listed.
David's siblings were:
1. Abner Waller, b. 1792-1800, m. Sarah Hall on 1-24-1815 2. Frances (Fanny) Waller, CA1796, m. James Myers on 2-14-1816 3. Lucinda Susanna (Lucindy) Waller, CA1800, m. Thomas Bolton on 4-20-1830 4. Jonas Memory Waller, b. 12-29-1803, m. Martha Washington on 11-25-1826 5. Sarah G. (Sally) Waller, b. 1805, m. Henry Mitchell on 12-11-1830 6. William Dennis Waller, b. 1810, m. Frances 7. Tabitha Leanor Waller, b. 1804-10 or 12, m. Ephraim Jackson on 8-7-1834
David left Virginia for Texas by way of Tennessee about 1820 I think. He was my 2nd great grandfather. I have my direct descendents from David and Ellender up to present time.
I have been researching the Waller line for about 9 years and perhaps because of my geographical location, all I come up with in my research are the Waller's of Spotyslvania. I'm sure there is a connection, but I have been unable to make it. I have documentation on the Spotsylvania line back to 1066 when Allured de Waller crossed the English Channel in the army of William the Conqueror, should you need any.
My question to you is if you're familiar enough with the Waller family to know if there is any reference to any of these folks on the internet, or in Pittsylvania. I've tried looking myself, but since I'm a brand new net person, I'm not too sure how to narrow down my search to be specific enough without having to look through 22000 entries!

I am looking for info. regarding Jesse Ellis Amos, who was born in 1825 someplace in Va., I think in Halifax Co., but I have discovered no data to substantiate my thinking. Anyway, he married Mariah Howard of Louisa Co. in 1850, moved to Chatham that year and operated a wagon shop on 99 acres of land along the Danville-Lynchburg Road, now Rt.29.There were three children born, all in Chatham, Robert Francis,1851, my grandfather, Jesse Thomas, 1852 and Isabella, 1854. In 1855 Jesse moved his family to Reidsville,Nc. which is a short distance away.
In 1861 Jesse enlisted in the 3rd NC Regiment which became the 13th and he was in Co.K. I have his service record which does't consist of much. He died on 2/1/65 from an unspecified disease near Petersburg, Va. I have not been able to determine the location of his body, etc.
I would be grateful for any information you may have relevant to the foregoing.

Footnote: I've seen different spellings of the Stegall name, some Stigall and others as Steagall, I don't which correct and this may be what has brought to this dead end.

I'm researching a Nancy Payne, born about 1755, who married Gabriel Richards of Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1774. The marriage took place in Milton, Caswell, North Carolina, just over the border of Pittsylavania County.
There is a will of John Payne in the Pittsylavania County, Virginia, Abstracts of Wills 1768-1800, dated 24 November 1786 and probated 15 May 1781, that has William Durret as one of the executors and Gabriel Richards as a witness and provider of security. Nancy Payne is not cited, although William, Samuel, Josha, Rhoda, Charles, Rueban, and John, along his with wife, Elizabeth, are cited. Elizabeth was his second wife. The name Rhoda reappears later in the Gabriel Richards genealogy.
The 1787 census of Pittsylvania County cites Gabriel Richards, William Durrett and John Payne. The Pittsylvania County Deed Book mentions: 25 August 1768 John Payne of Goochland County; 18 June 1770 John Payne the elder of Goochland; and, on 23 June 1773 John Payne Sr. of Pittsfield County.
Any information about this Nancy Payne would be appreciated.

I am trying to find out more information about JOHN QUINN. There is a citation in Pittsylvania Co., VA that says "The Court doth certify that it satisfactorily appears to them that JOHN QUINN late a revolutionary pensioner of the United States departed this life on the 6 September last. In another record (I don't have date): A Councel for heirs of REDMOND QUINN decd. George May gdn. died and John S. May was appointed Adm. of GEORGE MAY & REDMOND QUINN, a legatt of JOHN QUINN.
There is a Will dated 7/2/1845 of JOHN QUINN. Only one mentioned was son REDMOND.
