I have record dated Feb 15, 1778 transferring land from Lewis Hale of

now lives, lying in Pittsylvania on the south side of Staunton River at
the mouth of the blackwater bounded by the main road.  Also have info
that Humphrey Burditt had land on little Bull Run and Blackwater.  Would

I am looking for information on the family of Jeremiah White.

Here is what I know:

According to the "History of Pittsylvania County" Jeremiah and his family
moved from Dinwiddie County to eastern Pittsylvania in 1778.

He is probably the Jeremiah White that purchased land on Sweeting's Fork of
Sandy Creek in Pittsylvania County in 1780 (Grant Book D, p.135) and 1783
(Grant Book H p.606).

Jeremiah's wife's name was Jane.  Two of Jeremiah and Jane's grandchildren
had the middle name Stainback/Stanback - I believe that might indicate that
this is Jane's maiden name.

I believe that this Jeremiah White is the one mentioned in Methodist Bishop
Francis Asbury's diarys - one of Jeremiah's daughters married the son of
Joel Mabry, who was also mentioned in those diarys and was a prominent
member of the Methodist church.

Jeremiah White left a will in Pittsylvnia County (1788) from which much of
the information about his descendents is derived.

Descendants of Jeremiah and Jane White (8 children):

A daughter White (first name unknown) who married Braxton Mabry.
        They had 3 children:
Robert Smith Mabry born 27 Oct 1777 married Rebecca Adams
                   (married 1899 Pittsylvania County)
Jane Stanback Mabry married John Clark Merwin/Martin
                    (married 1902 Pittsylvania County)
Polly Braxton Mabry married Richard Mabry (a cousin)
                    (married 1899 Greensville County)
Their mother died about 1788 and Braxton remarried to Nancy Day
(note that Smith was the name of Braxton's mother)
William Jeremiah White, family unknown
John Hamilton White, family unknown
Robert White, family unknown
Nancy White, family unknown
Mary White, married Mr. Hardaway, children unknown
Jane White, married William Clark, 8 children
William Stainback Clark married Martha Redd
David Hamilton Clark married Martha Clark
John Augustine Clark married Elizabeth Fowlkes
        Mary Clark married James Garland
Lettice White Stone Clark married Leonard Claiborne
Jane White Clarke married Philip Grasty
        (General) Thomas H. Clark
A second daughter White that married James Hinton

Any additional information on this family would be appreciated.

Rebecca was born in 1783, the daughter of Nathan and Anna Adams. (Nathan
left a will in Pittsylvania County in 1802).

I believe that her mother's maiden name may have been Littlejohn, but have

Children of Nathan and Anna Adams:
Rebecca Adams married Robert Smith Mabry, 1799 Pittsylvania County, 13 children
after a brief stay in Kentucky, settled in Marion Co, IL
Martha White Mabry married Isaac Allen in Logan Co, KY
Nancy Jayne Mabry married Henry Bass
Joel Braxton Mabry married Jane Copeland
Polly C. Mabry married Thomas Weems in Wayne Co, IL
Jane S. Mabry married Zachariah Wildon
Dudley Henry Mabry m1.Elizabeth Haley m2.Cordelia Williams m3.Jane Parsons
Richard Greenville Mabry married Martha Jane Ray
William Henry Mabry married Susanna Burge
Nathan A. Mabry, died age 14
Rebecca Littlejohn Mabry, married Joseph Bundy
Robert Smith Mabry m1. Susanna Smith, m2. Esther Jane Bayles
Susan Emily Mabry married Samuel Telford
Betty Adams married Thomas Prosize, children unknown
Joel Adams m1. Dionish Walden m2. Janey Payne, children unknown
John Adams married Sara, children unknown
Nathan Adams married Sally Murphy, children unknown
Polley Adams married Dudley Farthing, children unknown
William Adams married Fanny Meachum, children unknown

Any additional information on this family would be appreciated. I am
especially interested in whether the name Littlejohn turns up in the

"Pittsylvania should be proud of her record on that battlefield for she
furnished very many more soldiers for Pickett's charge than
any other one county in Virginia. No braver man ever fell on a field of
battle than Col. R. W. Martin, still no braver than
H.L.Carter, James Carter, Jabe Cousins, Bilharz, Coleman, Walker, White,
Tredway, Joe Corbin and many others."   As well, in Mrs. Clements

Hurt, VA) where they bought and operated a mill (according to Herman Melton's
Pittsylvania's Eighteenth Century Grist Mills and Diane Popek's Tracks Along
the Staunton).  James Edward ROARK died on November 28, 1921, in Hurt,
Virginia.  On his death certificate, his mother is listed as Lockey or Locky
ROARK and name of father was not known.  According to a great aunt, Lockey or
Locky ROARK was an unwed mother.  She is listed as head of the household in
the 1850 Pittsylvania County Census and only James was listed as living with
her (she was 43 and he was 11).  I have not found her listed in any other
census.  James Edward ROARK and Tabitha Shields had ten children - Virginia,
Ella S., Dolly A., Nancy E., John Anderson, James Braxton ROARK (my
great-grandfather) was born 23 July 1872 in Pittsylvania County, Sallie H.,
William, Lottie D., and Robert Sherman.  James Braxton ROARK was married to
Mary Ann "Molly" JACOBS on 17 October 1894, in Pittsylvania County.  They had
four children - Frances Tabitha ROARK (my grandmother), James Edward ROARK,
Berta Reba ROARK, and Cora Thelma ROARK.

A Charles Carter was bondsman for Martin Hardin as executor of the will of

tradition is strong that Henry Hardin's wife Judith was a Lynch, but I see
no proof of that.  A Richard Carter is found ca. 1793-1810 on various deeds

proved progeny.  I descend from from Henry Hardin's daughter Sarah who

I have a mystery man named Moses Overton. He was born ca 1816 in
Lunenburg Co., VA I think. He married Louzina Hankins in 1837 in
Pittsylvania Co., Va and was listed on the 1850 census. His wife was
listed on the 1860 Henry Co., VA census as head of household..so I
assume he died during the decade but can find no death record, or any
other record of him. Does anyone out there have a clue??? Moses and
Louzina had 12 children:
Elizabeth(b. 1839); William T. (1840-1909) m. Susan Eanes 1866; Tabitha,
Moses Jr.(b.1846, m. Mary Stephens 1867), Mary, Martha Ann(b.1850),
James, Edward, Sally, Amanda(b.1856),Letitia, and my ancestor John Holm
Overton(1853-1946).
Louzina Hankins was the dau of Reuben Hankins and Betsy
Covington(m.1800, Pittsylvania  Co.). Reuben was the son of William
Hankins, who was the son of Daniel Hankins(Sherrif of Pittsylvania Co.,
VA late 1700's)

mention of a place called the Burhill Bridge. Any info leading to the location of this graveyard would mean a great deal to me.

It is looking more and more as if George and Elizabeth Coleman ROBERTSONof
Pittsylvania Co., VA were progenitors of my Robinsons in Larue County, KY, so
I'd like to post a little information in hopes that someone will recognize
these people.  I'm particularly interested in individual number 4 in the
descendant outline below, George Johnson Robertson.  He married Elizabeth

of George and Elizabeth's children are known to be: Mary Robertson b. 1825;

fit right in), died in Larue Co., KY in 1861.  **Parents  named on his death

This Fitzgerald family has several Dodson marriages and Dodson descendant
marriages.  In addition there has been and still are regular intermarriages
between this family and the Dodson.  The first wife of John Fitzgerald,
Senior, is unknown.  His second wife, Jane Holloway, was a daughter of James
Holloway of Pittsylvania Co., Va.  In placing the children it is obvious from
deeds, marriages, censuses, etc. where most of them go as far as which wife
they belong to, but getting them in order is something else, so the list is
only tentative as far as placement, however the names of all 18 children are
here.  B. R. Randolph.

There is a family tradition among the descendants of Edmond Fitzgerald (who
married Millicent Payne) that Edmond was born on the "high seas"and it is
presumed that John, Sr., Matthew, Christopher, and Garrett Fitzgerald of
Pittsylvania and Halifax Cos., Va. are brothers or close relatives of Edmond.
It is possible this group of Fitzgeralds is descended from Garrett Fitzgerald,
Sr. first mentioned in Rappahannock Co., Records (later Essex and Richmond
Cos.) as early as the 1680's.  There is much that needs to be done on this
family, back to the immigrant and down to the present.  The records and the
list of John Fitzgerald's children are given as tentative starting point.  B.
R. Randolph.

Looking for clues to help me find the siblings and parents of William Lynch
born in 1742.   Lived and owned considerable property in Pittsylvania County.
He was involved in the government there.  His first wife was Elizabeth.
Second wife was Anne Moon Stone.  She was the daughter of Gideon Moon and the
widow of Ashford Stone who was killed in the Rev. War.  William and his
family moved to Pendleton SC around 1819.  He died in SC and was a Captain in
the Rev. War.

This is not the Brunswick Co William with 34 children.  There are documents,
wills and grave stones in SC to show the differences and that Anne Moon Stone
was married to the Captain William Lynch of Pittsylvania Co. who died in SC.

Thanks for any clues!  Geri Oliver
