Prince Edward County, Virginia was Formed in 1754 from Amelia
County and was named for Prince Edward Augustus, son of Frederick,
Prince of Wales. For more than 100 years, the county courthouse
was located in the village of Worsham, where the colonial debtors
prison, built in 1766, still stands.
The Town of Farmville was formed in 1798, incorporated in
1912. The county seat was moved from Worsham to Farmville in 1871.
