- FERGUS, MCCORMICK
posted by Cynthia N. Russell on Sunday,
January 3, 1999
- My g-g-g-g grandfather Francis FERGUS' stone house is the
oldest standing stone house in the Pulaski Co - it is the Rock
House Marina which unfortunately has one story underwater with
the creation of the damn in the area to create Claytor Lake.
Francis and his wife, Mary MCCORMICK hosted Andrew Jackson at
their home on many occasions as he travelled between the Hermitage
in Nashville and Washington, D.C., also George Washington and
Alexander Hamilton as it was a mid-point between Washington and
Nashville. I am trying desperately to find the burial place of
Mary McCormick FERGUS - she died in 1820 and has to be somewhere,
but where? I was wondering if there was a cemetery near by their
home which was covered by the damn waters - but wouldn't the
remains have had to be moved to another location? I am open to
any thoughts or suggestions. FERGUS Newsgroup FERGUS-L@rootsweb.com
