Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon in the Mercy Seat Baptist Church of Powhatan, W. Va. for Amos Jackson, 81, retried miner of Eckman, W.Va., who died in a Welch hospital Thursday following an extended illness.
The Rev. H.E. Price, pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Leonard Lipscomb. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery at Bluewell, W.Va.
A native of Wythe County and a former resident of Pulaski, he is survived by two brothers, Theodore Jackson of Keystone, W.Va., and Lewis Jackson of Charlestown, W.Va.; one sister, Mrs. Helen J. White of Kyle, W.Va.; and uncle Van Sheffey of Pulaski; two aunts, Mrs. Mollie S. Taylor and Miss Lucretia Sheffey both of Pulaski.
Benett Funeral Home in North Fork, W.Va. was in charge.

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi - Isabelle Preston Jackson, age 87, widow of Burnham Phillip Jackson, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Nemia of Venice, Florida; One son, Burnham Jackson, Jr. of Pearisburg, Virginia; One sister, Irene Preston Brown of Marion, Virginia; Four grandchildren, Rebecca Lawlor of Hampton, Virginia, Burnham Jackson, III of Charlotte, North Carolina, Christopher Jackson and Jessica Jackson both of Pearisburg, Virginia; Three great-grandchildren, Claire Lawlor, Hannah Jackson and Rylee Ayres-Jackson; Several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held Monday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at New Dublin Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dublin, Virginia with Rev. John K. Boyd officiating. Mrs. Lena M. Jackson, 86, Abingdon, mother of Mayor C.V. Jackson, Pulaski, died last night of a heart attack in Abingdon Hospital.
Surviving are five sons, E.R. Jackson and C.V. Jackson of Pulaski; F.A. Jackson, Sumner, Miss.; W.N. Jackson, Roanoke; Leslie M. Jackson of Portsmouth; two sisters Mrs. Ed. Addison, Meadow View, and Mrs. F.R. Cogswell, Abingdon.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 pm from the Baptist Church in Abingdon with the pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Meadow View.

Mabel Lucille Jackson, age 97 of Pulaski died Easter Sunday April 11, 2004 at Pulaski Community Hospital. Born October 9, 1906 in Glade Spring, she was the daughter of the late Dolly Hale Jackson and John Alfred Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, H. Leo Jackson, George Jackson, and Lawrence Hutton “Hut” Jackson, sisters; Lelia J. Summers, Launia J. Millirons, Lorraine J. Wolfe and Margaret J. Deeds. She was a dedicated educator in Washington, Smyth, and Pulaski Counties. Miss Jackson was born in Glade Spring, Va., where she graduated from high school in 1924. She began teaching school and attending summer classes at what is now Radford University. She received her two year diploma in 1936. In 1943 she joined the Woman’s Army Auxiliary corps (later called the Women’s Army Corps). She served in Dutch New Guinea, the Philippines at the Head Quarters of the Far Eastern Air Force Service Command, and then in early 1946, joined the Civil Service in Tokyo working for the chief Korean Division and later the Signal Corps. She returned to the United States in 1957. She and her sister Emily made a home in Pulaski helping to raise Emily’s son, John. She completed her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Radford and taught many years at Central Elementary School. Miss Jackson was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a person of deep, abiding faith, with great interest in politics, tennis, and Duke basketball. She is survived by one sister; Emily J. White of Pulaski. In addition she leaves a close-knit family of nieces and nephews and their off-spring, warm and caring friends in Pulaski and beyond, and her kind neighbors. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. after greeting and visiting with family members beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. David Hazelwood and Dr. John White will officiate. RADFORD - Melvin Randolph Jackson, 83, of Radford, formerly of Richmond, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2006. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army Air Corp SGT in the 767th Squadron, 461st Bomb Group, 15th Air Force serving in the Italian Campaign during World War II. He was a charter member of the Seaford, Delaware VFW Post #6149 and a member of the American Legion Post #137 in Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight Edward Jackson and Clara Apperson Jackson Orlopp. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elyria "Tillie" Jackson, formerly of Richmond; two sons, Dana Jackson of Fairlawn, and Gary Jackson of Blacksburg; four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., Richmond. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. DUBLIN - Ruby Estelle Stroupe Jackson, 86, residing at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Raymond Whited of Dunkard Road, Dublin, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 in the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Radford. She was born in Wytheville, on May 1, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Stroupe and Lula Hagee Stroupe. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Munsey Peyton Jackson, who passed away August 22, 2003. Also preceding her in death are brothers, Cecil Stroupe, Raymond Stroupe, a sister, Mozelle Miller, all of Wytheville and by a grandson, Micheal Peyton Jackson of Pulaski.
Mrs. Jackson retired at the age of 77 from the business she shared with her husband, Munsey Jackson Plumbing and Heating, Pulaski, servicing Pulaski County from 1948 until 1998. She also was owner, with her husband, of Jackson Apartments, Randolph Avenue, Pulaski. She attended First Baptist Church, Randolph Avenue as a member of the Fellowship Class. She was a member of Evergreen Methodist Church, Wytheville.
Surviving are: sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Lois Jackson, Draper, Buddy and Carolyn Jackson, Max Meadows; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Dan McNeeley, Wytheville, Edna and Raymond Whited, Dublin; grandchildren, Amanda Loving, Pulaski, Matthew Jackson, Pulaski, Mark Jackson, Las Vegas, Nev., Wendy Jackson, Denver, Colo., SSgt. RADFORD - Virginia Mae Smith Jacobs, 86, of Radford, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005. She was retired from the housekeeping department of Radford Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 7, 1919 in Saltville, the daughter of Fount and Mattie Frye Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul Jackson Jacobs, a son, Billy Holmes, and a sister, Vernie Neal. Survivors include two sons, Ralph Holmes of Radford, and Jessie Holmes of Riner; two daughters, Shirley Kennedy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Shelby Pruitt of Sugar Grove; a brother, Raymond Smith of Manassas; a sister, Doreen Tweety of Charlotte, N. C.; 25 grandchildren; and a multitude of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairlawn Church of God in Radford. Mrs. Jacobs will then be taken to Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville where the family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 with Rev. Eddie Dalton officiating. Interment will follow in the Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of your choice. Estelle McDaniel James, 81 of Radford, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at the New River Valley Medical Center. She was a member of the Radford Worship Center and a retired housekeeper with Radford University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Kenneth James. Survivors include two sisters, Lois Hamlin of Roanoke and Evelyn Young of Radford; and a brother, Sam McDaniel of Radford.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Radford Worship Center. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

Rosa James, a well known colored woman, was found dead in bed Sunday morning, death being attributed to natural causes. A sister who slept with her, had noted that she got up early in the morning and presumably gave attention to bread which she hah set for bafing after which she return to bed. The sister later upon getting up noticed that sis not move and shook her to find her body limp and lifeless. The deceased was about 50 years old and served in a domestic capacity in a number of homes. Burial has been deferred in an effort to locate an absent son.

Word has been received that James M. Jacques of New York who had been a guest at the Maple Shade Inn for the past several seasons, succumbs to sudden death at his home on Wednesday October 31.
He had been in practically good health all his life, when taken ill death meets him in about five minutes. He is survived by his mother and brother, Livingston Jacques of Datona, Fla.
Mr. Jacques had many intimate friends and appeared to be a man willing to make friend at all times. He having made visits to Florida, Georgia, and other places seemed to prefer Pulaski about all – and at time boosted this part of the country very highly.
Interment was made in Druid Ridge Cemetery, Baltimore where a great many of his friend were present.

SHEBOYGAN, WIS. – Richard Columbus Janey, of Sheboygan, Wis. passed away Monday, Sept. 6 in a local nursing home. Mr. Janey was born in 1923. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Arnold Janey and a grandson, Horace Duane Seagle, J r. Surviving are: two daughters and sons-in-law, Edith S. Taylor and husband Jerry W. Taylor, Pulaski, Florence Crouch and husband Lewis, Bluefield, Va.; grandson and wife, S. Wayne Seagle and Adriana Seagle of Pulaski. Funeral service will be held in Sheboygan, Wis. Friday, Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m.

RADFORD - James Nestor Jaquin, 56 of Radford, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2004. He was a U. S. Army MP during the Vietnam War and was Director of Human Resources at Alliant Tech. Survivors include his wife, Amy Mara Blough, of Radford; a daughter, Alexis Jaquin of Colorado; his mother, Anne Harris Jaquin of Pennsylvania; and two sisters, Gail Collis of New Jersey and Ann Banks of Pennsylvania. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church in Pulaski with Rev. Vickie Houck officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either the Christ Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 975, Pulaski, VA 24301 or the Gentle Shepherd Hospice, P. O. Edwin Jarlie, aged 20, died this morning at 5:15 o’clock at the local hospital following an illness from typhoid fever. He was brought to the institution about two weeks ago from Austinville and had been getting along nicely when his condition took a turn for the worse.
The body will be shipped tomorrow on No. 12 to Eau Clarie, Wis., the home of the family where interment will be made. A brother, N.O. Jarlie also employed at Austinville, came to Pulaski today on receipt of a message and made arrangements for the removal of the body.
The deceased was a son of O.T. and Sarah Jarlie and was born at Caryville, Wis. His father was a native of Norway. The deceased went to Austinville about a year ago and had a job as diamond drill helper with the E.J. Longyear Exploration Co., which is operating about Austinville.

An investigation as to the cause of Henry Jarrell’s death Saturday has been started by Pulaski county authorities, Sheriff C.E. Bones reveled today. Jarrells, 71, was reported to have drowned in New River near Belspring while fishing with three companions.
Henry Jarrell, 70-year old farmer, drowned in New River at Belspring Saturday afternoon when a boat in which he and two companions were riding overturned in eight feet of water.
William Likens, who saw the accident from the river swam out and rescued Jack Pennell and Foster Sutherland, farmers of the vicinity, but was unable to reach Jarrells in time to save him. Likens late dived and found the body. The Radford life saving crew work over Likens with an inhalator but could not revive him.
Jarrell’s wife and small son who were at their home, near the scene of the accident witnessed the drowning.
Jarrell was said by his companion to have accidentally overturned the boat while in the act of bailing out water from the bottom of the small craft.

Mathew Dennis Jarrell, 63, died early today at his home in Hiwassee.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Chrisley Jarrell; seven daughters, Mrs. Bey White, Chicago; Mrs. Bill Alley, Alyia, Ohio; Mrs. Henry Bushong, Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. Willow Austin, Mrs. George Collins, Mrs. Oscar Dalton Jr., and Miss Brenda Jarrell all of Hiwassee; six sons, Albert Jarrell, Mathew Jarrell, and Danny Jarrell all of Hiwassee; Leonard Jarrell of Pulaski; and Kanawha Jarrell and Steve Jarrell both of Chicago; one sister Mrs. Ed Wimer, Hot Springs; and two brothers Preston Jarrell, Hiwassee, and Dan Jarrell, Culpeper.
The body will remain at Strickler’s Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

HIWASSEE - Minnie Ada McGlothlin Jarrells, age 85 of Little Irish Road, Hiwassee, Virginia passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born September 29, 1919 in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late William Jay McGlothlin and Minnie Ann Sutherland McGlothlin. Her husband, Albert Early Jarrells; great grandson, Trevor Jarrells; four brothers, Bates McGlothlin, Robert McGlothlin, Harold McGlothlin and Kelly McGlothlin; and two sisters, Dorcus Jarrells, and Elizabeth Wyrick preceded her in death. She was a long time member of the Hiwassee Church of the Brethren. Surviving are: her four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Edgar M. “Butch” Turman, Allisonia, Evelyn and Lee Roy Marshall, Allisonia, Joan and Roger Fowler, Dublin, Rhonda and Richard R. The family will be meeting at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Butch Turman, 1556 Allisonia Rd, Allisonia. George Duvall Jefferson, 81, of Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004 in Pulaski Community Hospital. Mr. Jefferson was born on August 5, 1922 in Bentonville, Ak. His father, Walter Jefferson; mother, Theresa Smith Jefferson Yingling and stepfather, Sterling Yingling, as well as his sister Billie Andrews preceded Mr. Jefferson in death. Mr. Jefferson attended the University of Arkansas as well as the University of Baltimore, Md. and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Jefferson is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Glenna Myers Jefferson, Pulaski, Va., daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Wayne Marshall, Hanover, Va., and Pamela and Malcolm Barbour, Richmond, Va., four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Hilda Myers Vaughn of Pulaski; sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Bernie Rogers, Cocoa Beach, Fl., sister, Katherine Mull and nephew, Leonard Mull, Canyon Lake, Tx., brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Patsy Myers, Omaha, NE., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Jefferson was a retired Assistant Director of the Social Security Administration. He was a 32-Degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite, and Deacon Emeritus of the Laurel Park Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Va. George was an active member of the Newbern Christian Church as well as the Pulaski Senior Citizens Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22 from Thomas M. Seagle and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Winn officiating with burial to follow in the Town of Dublin Cemetery. Andrew Jenkins, colored, who moved to Pulaski from Fries some time ago, died Friday from pneumonia, aged 36 years. The body was buried Saturday in the Needmore cemetery. The deceased leaves a widow and one child, and was an employee at the Pulaski Iron Co. finance.

Eliza Jane Jenkins, colored wife of Howard Jenkins, died Friday afternoon at her home at Needmore, following an extended illness from complication, aged 54 years. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the church in Needmore and burial will be in the family burying ground near Needmore. Her husband and several children survive.

Mrs. Mary Anne Jenkins, wife of W.L. Jenkins died Wednesday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the family home in the Mount Olivet section. Death was due to cancer of the stomach. She is survived by her husband and several children and was 53 years of age. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet graveyard.

Funeral services for Otha Wayne Jenkins, 28, of Dublin were held today at 4:30 at the Mt. Olivet Methodist church.
Conducting the service were the Rev. Charles Byrd, the Rev. J. Thomas Redding, and the Rev. Clifton Anderson. Burial was in the Hufford Cemetery.
Jenkins is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nancy McCraw Jenkins; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Otha Ray Jenkins of Pulaski; a son Stephen Wayne Jenkins; a sister Mrs. Kenneth Jones of Pulaski; and a brother Michael Zane Jenkins of Pulaski.

BELSPRING – Roger Lee Jenkins, Sr. born Sept. 27, 1949 died suddenly of a massive heart attack on April 11, 2006 at 1:01 p.m. He leaves behind his beloved wife Sandy of 36 years. Daughters: Ginger (John) Wheeler of Riner, Va., Teresa (Edwin) Kirby of High Point, N.C. Sons: Roger Jr. of Richmond, Va. and Brice of the home. Grandchildren: JaMar, Alexis and Marcus Kirby of High Point, N.C. Rogers two loves were his family and working on cars. He was a mechanic most of his life. He was also proud to be a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. As he wished his body was donated for scientific study and research. A memorial will be held on April 23, 1 p.m. at the home, 6842 Depot Road, Belsprings, Va. located behind the Belspring Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Havey JENNINGS. Creed Harrison Jennings, 85, of Wheatland Hills Retirement Center in Radford, died Friday, December 26, 2003 at New River Valley Medical Center. Born September 7, 1918 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Currell Peter Jennings and Dosca Newman Jennings. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in W.W.II., and was a retired welder with the Iron Workers Union #697. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ruth Cruff, Zelma Southern, Lula Morris, Stella Jennings and Troy Jennings. He is survived by his son, Larry Creed Jennings of Mechanicsville, Va.; a brother, Clinton Jennings of Dublin; one sister; Ersie Morris of Newbern; and one grandson, Jason Michael Jennings of Mechanicsville, Va. Borne in Wolfe, West Virginia, March 4, 1904, Jennings was the son of the late John Andrew and Emma Duncan Jennings.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bradley Thompson Jennings, Dublin; one daughter, Mrs. David Rutledge Jr., Dublin; two sons W.M. Jennings Jr., Roanoke, and Thomas T. Jennings, San Antonia, Texas; three sisters, Miss Margaret Jennings, Bluefield, W.Va., Mrs. George R. Evans, Coopers, W.Va., and Mrs. Jerry Brillheart, Dublin, and five grandchildren.
Jennings was a member of Highland Methodist church where he has served as superintendent for 20 years. He was Past Master of Henry Clay Lodge No. 280 AF and AM; Past Worthy Patron Eastern Star Chapter 85, Dublin; a former member of Dublin Ruritian Club, and currently president of Pulaski County Life Saving and First Aid crew. Jennings was co-owner of the Southwestern Electric Co. in Roanoke.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 pm from the Highland Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Austin officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, where Mason graveside rites will be conducted. Pallbearers will be members of the lifesaving crew.
The body will remain at Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski until 12:30 pm. Tuesday and will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour before the service.

She was a loving a faithful companion and mother as she worked in teaching, singing, women’s ministries, visitation and prayer. Born Nov. 11, 1918 in Aberdeen, Scotland, she grew up and spent most of her adult life in Charleston, W.Va. before moving to Dublin, Va. in 1981. She moved to Poca in 2000. She was loved by all who knew her and considered a blessing by her family. Her unending love, laughter and beautiful smile will be missed. She was a retiree of Sears and a Senior Regent of the St. Albans Moose, where she was a member from 1956-1981. In Dublin, she was a member of Dublin Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at Pulaski General Hospital. After returning to Poca, she attended Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed her time playing cards at the Nitro Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas V. Cogan; sister, Gwendoline Woolwine; brother, Robert Cowie; step-son, Thomas V. Another tragic railway crossing accident late yesterday afternoon resulted in the death of Charles Oakley Johnson and the slight injury of two boys, George Turner and Robert Kirkner.
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Johnson. He was born in Dublin July 9, 1889. He married Miss Blanche Bouldin who survives him with two children, Margaret and Evelyn. He was one of nine children and his was the first death to break the family circle. There are these sisters and brothers: Mrs. M.T. She was the daughter of the late Early Moore Sonner and Annie Gertrude Kress Sonner. She was retired employee of Jefferson Mills with 42 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husbands Ellis Waddell and Claude Johnson. RADFORD - Mary C. Johnson of Radford, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at the Highland Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dublin. She was born Mar. 29, 1913 to the late Harvey and Bessie Hampton Butler. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church for 27 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Carmen J. Eaves, Radford; three granddaughters; one grandson; three sisters, Ruby Crockett, Wytheville, Mary Josie Butler, Pulaski, Sadie Muse, Roanoke; four great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson, who was Serena Bond, was born in Pulaski County, May 7, 1852 and is the last of her family. She was married to Patrick Johnson in 1884. There is one daughter surviving, Mrs. J.W. Covington of Roanoke, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She is survived by four stepchildren, Stuart Johnson, Mrs. Lola Bentley, Mrs. Lucy Lyons, and R. Johnson all of Pulaski.

She was a granddaughter of Mrs. Stuart Johnston and the late Mr. Johnston, and had a host of friends and relatives who were shocked at her passing.

James M. Johnston died at 6:30 o’clock this morning at his residence on Altoona Heights, following an illness extended over a period of years during which he has been confined to his house. For several weeks past he had been bedfast.
The deceased was born September 27, 1846 so was just one week less then 74 years of age. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Hester Flick who died some years ago. There were three children of this union, one son who was the victim of an accident in his youth and two daughters who survives, Mrs. Charles R. Johnston and Mrs. John D. McCormick both of Pulaski. His second wife was Miss Sallie Roberts who survived. He was a confederate veteran having fought during the closing years of the war. He was a member of the Christian church for a number of years.
The funeral services will be held at Thornspring in Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock and burial made in the family plot at that place.

Born January 12, 1927 in Tazewell, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Rosa Collins Patrick. In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by two brothers, John and Henry Patrick and a sister Bessie Fox. Nan attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who loved making beautiful quilts for her family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and reading. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Survivors include her husband of 57 years Frank M. Johnston; daughters Suzie Webb and Rosa Austin of Bluefield, Va, and Frankie Brewster and husband Roy of Troy, Va; brother: Joe Patrick, Sebring, Fla.; sister: Ruth Smith, Princeton, W.Va. PULASKI – Geraldine Farmer Jones, 85, of Robinson Tract Road, Pulaski, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born in Pulaski County on April 22, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Russell Thomas Farmer and Stella Jordon Thornton Farmer. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Harvey Farmer, Thomas Jefferson Farmer and James Clarence “Bud” Farmer. Grandson, Richard David “Richie” Jones, II. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Robinson Tract Road, Pulaski. Surviving are: her husband of 66 years, Boyd Edward Jones; sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. Jean Ellen Jones, age 69, of Newbern, passed away Friday, June 13, 2003 at her home. She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church in Draper and a Registered Nurse in Dublin for Dr. David Skewes for many years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Violet Gaye Bourne and her husband, Charles Jones Sr. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles, Jr. and Carman Jones of Radford; two grandchildren, George Harman of Radford, and Justin Harman of Floyd; three brothers-in-law and spouse, Kenneth and Mary Jones of Norcross, GA, Vince Pampley of Pulaski, and Thomas Jones of Maryland; one sister-in-law and spouse, Vivian and David Coltrane of Irmo, SC.; three aunts, Helen Bourne, Lettie Bourne, and Laura Mae Melvin, all of Tazewell; an uncle and an aunt, Henry and Carrie Bourne of Tazewell; surrogate sister, Darlene Covey of Pulaski; and a faithful companion, Scruffy. Kathleen Jones (nee Baker) age 96, on November 23, 2004, died peacefully at White Horse Village where she had been a resident since 1991. She was the devoted Mother of David T. Jones and his wife Virginia of Eagleville, Pa. and Kaleen Mayberry and her husband Richard of Yardley, Pa. two granddaughters and two great granddaughters survive her as well. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry R. Jones. Kathleen was a graduate of The George School in Newtown Pa. where she was honored for athletic achievement. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening and sports. She was an avid fan of the Philadelphia teams. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial service to be held Dec. 11th at 2 pm at White Horse Village, 535 Gradyville Road, Newtown Square, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved to Pulaski, from Pa. in 1930 and lived here until 1955 when Henry was transferred to Wilmington DE. During their life in Pulaski they were active in many community activities particularly Scouting and the Civil Air Patrol.

Kenley Roby Jones, 89, formerly of Dublin, died Monday night at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Shawsville.  Born Mar 16, 1886, in Grayson County, he was the son of the late Steven Saunders Jones and Juklia Vaughn Jones.  He was preceded in death by his wife Lula Dalton Jones.  He is survived by six daughter, Mrs. Frances Parks and Nellie J. Dalton, both of Pulaski, Mrs. Phyllis Williams of Radford, and Mrs. Beulah Kerr, Mrs. Julia Morris and Mrs. Carrie Jennelle, all of Pearisburg; five sons, Boyd Jones, Ralph Jones, Coy W. Jones, and Kenneth L. Jones, all of Pulaski, and Lonnie Jones of Pearisburg; one sister, Mrs. Lula Quesenberry of Pulaski; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.  The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Thorn Spring United Methodist Church with the Rev. Julian Walton and the Rev. Fred A. Austin officiating.  Burial will follow in Thorn Spring Cemetery.  Friend may call at Stricklers Funeral Home in Pulaski.

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Lucille Safewright Jones, age 77, passed away peacefully at home in Philadelphia after her courageous battle with lung cancer Sept. 20, 2005. She was formerly of Pulaski, Va. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Safewright and Julia Manuel (McGuire), loving husband Foster B. Jones, Jr. and granddaughter Lorie Jones. She will be sadly missed by her children, Larry Jones, Linda Holley, Joe Jones, Patricia Maholland, Michael Jones, Barbara Schick and Foster B. Jones, III; her 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and her faithful dog Harley. Funeral service was held Friday, 11 a.m. at Bethel Chapel Church and the family received friends from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment followed at Rosedale Memorial Park.

LYNCHBURG - Ruth Jenkins Jones, 83, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, August 6, 2005. She was the loving wife of Ralph Francis Jones, Sr. for 64 years. Ruth was born January 8, 1922, in Springton, W. Va., a daughter of the late Grover Earl Jenkins and Julia Marie Massey Jenkins. Family was the most important thing in Ruth's life. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, four of her children, Michael B. Jones and wife Kaye, of Lynchburg, Teresa Jones Moldenhauer and husband Michael, of Bedford, Stephen Earl Jones and wife Claudia, of Lynchburg and Martha Jones Cousins and husband John, of Ophelia; three sisters, Betty Louise Burton, of Greensboro, N.C., June Elizabeth Moore, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jean Marie Helvey, of Fairfax. Ruth is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; who were the joy of her life. Mrs. Sarah E. JONES, aged 43, wife of G.W. Jones, died late yesterday afternoon at the Pulaski hospital, where she was removed just one week before for treatment for complications.
Funeral  services will be held this afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Baptist church at Gunton Park, the body to be taken by motor conveyance, leaving the late home in East Pulaski. Interment will be in the family burying ground.
 The deceased is survived by her husband, who is employed by Norfolk and Western, and these children, Minnie E., John W., Rosa L., George R., Earl E., Stella V., and Lawrence E. JONES.  She is also survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank JONES of Gunton Park.
The body of Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth JONES, wife of George JONES, who died Saturday at the Pulaski hospital, was taken to Gunton Park Sunday, where she was buried in the family graveyard.  The funeral was held in the Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. T. M. BANE.
Pall bearers were: J. L. CRAIG, J. A. FARMER, Earl FARMER, Rayo HOWLETTE, W. KEGLEY and Hampton WHEELING, of Pulaski.  The flower girls were Misses Rosa Lee JONES, Daisey NELSON, Virginia WHEELING, Louise KEGLEY,  Fairy QUESENBERRY, Evelyn NELSON, Iva FAGG, Nellie HUDSON,  Mrs. HOWELETT,  Mrs. COWAN, of Pulaski, and Misses Anne COLLINS of Gunton Park.
 The deceased is survived by her husband, and the following children: Minnie, Rose, Stella,  John, George, Earl and Lawrence.  Two children died in infancy.  Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank JONES of Gunton Park, there are three sisters, Mrs. May BRINKLEY, of Wytheville; Mrs. Robert JONES of Kenner, Ky., and Mrs. Bessie RAINES of Gunton Park, and two brothers, W. A. JONES, of Coalwood W. Va., and Jas. JONES, of Pulaski, also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. A.H. Jordan who died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Wilson at Swarthmore, Pa., were held this afternoon from the Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. D. Trigg James in charge. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
The deceased was the former Miss Virginia Whitman, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Whitman of Wythe county. Mrs. Jordan resided in Pulaski many years and was active in church, civic, and social affairs of the town. Since the death of her husband who owned and operated Jordan’s drug store, she has made her home with her daughter.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fred Wilson and Mrs. W.D. Sizer of Glen Ridge, N.J. Also two sisters, Mrs. John Haller of Salem, and Miss Lilly Whitman of Wilmore, Ky.; and Mrs. R.H. Wooling a sister in law. Three sisters preceded her to the grave, Mrs. H.L. McLean, of Wilmore; Mrs. C.M. Galway of Pocahontas; and Mrs. Southgate Taylor of Norfolk.

Virgil Blake Justice, 59, of 1904 Monte Vista Drive, Pulaski died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 at his home. He was born in Pikesville, Ky. on Nov. 19, 1944 and was a resident of Pulaski for the past 10 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Grundy National Bank and Independent Financier. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be loved and missed dearly by all his family and friends.
Surviving are: his wife, Betty Sue Ferguson Justice; sister, Pam Bartlett; sons and grandchildren, Vince Justice and his wife Debbie and grandchildren Joshua and Matthew, Duane Justice, Scott Ferguson, Dale Ferguson and his wife Maria and grandchildren Katie and DJ, Paul Ferguson and grandchildren Joshua and Adam and great-grandchild Paul Blake, Dale Wood.
