O. Gregory Knisely, 56, formerly of Pulaski County, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 in Lake Park, Fl.
Born in Roanoke, Va. on August 27, 1947 to the late O. Gregory Knisely, Sr. and Mary Parker "Parkie" Knisely, Greg was well-known for his humor, patience, and woodworking skills. It was rare for a marine carpenter, but his love for boats and the mountains took him from the Florida seas to Southwest Va. several times in his lifetime. He introduced us to Jimmy Buffet, catfish, and laid-back living. He loved the water. As a young boy, he delivered newspapers from his jon-boat along the New River. In his woodworking shop in Hiwassee, Va. the fishing rods at the dock were attached to a bell in the shop. When the bell rang, the work ceased and the fishing began. Living so close to the river, he would often fish from his living room.
Greg once said he wanted all his children to be daughters because "little girls love to hug their daddy's neck." Daughters, Angela "Gee" Knisely Secrest of New Prague, Minn., Heather Knisely of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., Chelsea and Jorden "Jordie" Knisely of Pulaski County, Va. miss him terribly. Also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Bob Vogel of Fairfax, Va. and Martha and Chris Kimbel of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Julie, Brad, Ross, Laura, and Paige; and two grandsons, Michael and Christopher Secrest of Summerville, Ga.
Friends, like family, Chris Gregory, Dory Howard, Jim and Nancy Mooring, Tommy Aldermen, Kim, Shawn, Amy, Andy, and Kayla Price, Rick and Sandy and others will miss you, Greg. Fondly remembered by Sharon Knisely and Karita Knisely.
Condolences may be sent to the Knisely families c/o Pulaski Presbyterian Church, 975 Memorial Drive, Pulaski, Va. 24301. Donations, in memory of Greg, may be sent to Hiwassee Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Gilbert Atkins, Lead Mine Road, Hiwassee, Va. 24347.
Pastor Rusty Whitener will join the family in remembrance Saturday, September 27 on the shores of Claytor Lake.
