Susan

KEMP

GULFPORT, MISS. - Susan Kemp Lewis of Gulfport, Miss., died peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, August 15, 2004 in Lafayette, La. at the age of 90.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Gulfport on Oct. 14, 1913 and was raised in Casper, Wy. She often visited her grandmother Susan Dupont in Gulfport and returned to attend Gulf Park College in 1929. While at Gulf Park she was a member of the Athletic Association, Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Sorority and treasurer of the Coastal Club. She also enjoyed writing poetry during her college years. She graduated from Gulf Park College in 1931. She continued her education at Louisiana State University pursuing studies for a career in social work. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She met her husband to be at LSU. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1933 and married Lawrence Lewis that same year.
Following World War II, her husband pursued a career as an officer in the United States Air Force and over the years of his military career, Sue enjoyed living in several central and eastern states as well as in England and France. She was an active member of military wives clubs. She was an avid golfer for many years and was a member of the Keesler AFB Women's Golf Association. During her husbands' active duty years, she did volunteer work with several organizations such as the American Red Cross and Military Family Services.
Sue and her husband returned to Gulfport area in 1970 following his retirement and settled in Biloxi. She was actively involved in the Altar Guild at St. Peter's By the Sea, was a member of the Symphony Guild and the Colonial Dames. Sue was an avid reader, loved to travel and above all had a passion for studying her family's history. She was a descendent of the Huguenots who came to Charleston, S.C. in the late 1600s and often researched the records of the Huguenot society when visiting her daughter in Charleston. This interest led her to taking a trip to France in her later years with the Huguenot Society to further trace her family's roots. Her passion for genealogy yielded a rich written legacy for her children and grandchildren. Sue was accomplished in the art of crochet, needlepoint and knitting. She also designed and made clothing for herself and her children.
Upon the death of her husband in 1997, Sue moved to Lafayette, La. to be near her son. She enjoyed visiting her daughters in Virginia and New Orleans and their friends became her friends. Sue's long and rich life is best described by one of Tennyson's famous lines, "I am a part of all that I have me."

Jacob

Lewis

Sylvatus, April 12, 1923--- Rev. Jacob Lewis Castle Lindsey, 74 years of age, of Ocala, died this morning from the effects of cancer, Death was not unexpected as his condition has been critical for sometime. Although his suffering was great he stood it remarkable well. He remained conscious almost to the end, recognizing and welcoming those who came to see him. It seemed to do him so much good for anyone to visit him and as long as he could talk he would converse with all those who paid him this respect.
For the past two or three weeks he realized that it was only a matter of time till all would be over. Looking behind the dark cloud, the intense suffering to which he was subjected, he saw the silver lining as is evidenced by the following quotations he uttered in a broken voice but a strong faith shortly before his death: "Come life, come death, come what may I am happy in the Lord." "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard neither hath it entered into the heart of man the things that God hath prepared for those that love Him."
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emily Lindsey, five children, William, Dexter, Astor, Flora, and Oney, four brothers; William B., Richard W., David T., and Jessie Smith, Mrs. Bettie Wright, Mrs. Martha Gray and Mrs. Leah Gray, P., and four sisters, Mrs. Emily (incomplete obituary)

Richard (Dick) Lineweaver in 1938 and spent most of her life in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, Virginia, where she and her husband raised two daughters, Bonnie L. Paul of Harrisonburg and Debra Lineweaver of Hiwassee, Virginia. A shy, reserved woman, Margaret quietly excelled in her artistic abilities during those years. Her family and friends cherish the heirlooms she created. With complete dedication to family, Margaret and Dick made a loving home for Bonnie and Debbie and opened their hearts and home to their niece, Pamela Cahill Hennon. A wonderful cook and lover of music, Margaret often danced while in the kitchen. She delighted in children and devoted herself to her three grandchildren, Penelope Paul Imeson, John Abraham Paul, and Thomas Jefferson Paul. Later in life, Margaret worked as a caregiver for children and older adults in the community. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg. After leaving her home, she moved to southwestern Virginia four years ago, where she continued her ceramics and love of music and made new friends.
