On Monday night Vickers is said to have called the officer from a building and shot at him three times, two shots going wild and the third striking the officer in the hip. The bullet took a downward course and is not necessarily dangerous. The wounded officer turned back into the building to call another officer and as he did so Vickers is said to have put the point of the pistol in his own mouth and fired killing himself instantly.
The deceased was a son of Mrs. Vickers and the late Samuel Vickers and about 40 years of age. He removed from this section several years ago and had been at Hopewell helping in the installation of machinery. Beside his widow and mother, there are several brothers and sisters. The body was accompanied here by his widow and a Miss Fox. Other members of the family here for the funeral were Mrs. Davis and Miss Elizabeth Vickers of Alexandria, and Mack Vickers of Jenkins-Jones, W.Va.
