The Resolves appear at the bottom of the left column of the newspaper. |
The chapter was organized on February 3, 2001, by Ms. Betty Jane Stewart. It was established for women who are busy with work and home, yet want to be involved in their community. Meetings are held once a month on Saturday mornings from September through May. Prince William County Resolves, after which the chapter is named, were probably the work of George Mason of Gunston Hall. These Resolves were written in response to the Boston Port Bill which became law on March 31, 1774. This bill, which closed Boston Harbor, was the British response to the dumping of tea in the harbor on December 16, 1773. As word of these events spread throughout the colonies, support for the Massachusetts patriots grew. These Resolves were among the first steps Virginia patriots took against Great Britain. Membership Information: Any woman 18 years of age and older may join as long as she can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an American patriot. If your ancestor served as a soldier or contributed money or goods to the cause of American freedom, consider joining the DAR to preserve and protect your heritage. For more information, contact our chapter’s Registrar, Marie Vayer, at marieinc@verizon.net. |
