Pension Application of James Hamilton S25128

Augusta County [VA], towit
This day James Hamilton came before me one of the Majistrates for the County afforesaid and made oath that he is the same James Hamilton to Whom the original Certificate in his possession was given, of which the following is a Copy
“I do with the advice of the Council of State, hereby certify that James Hamilton of Augusta, about 30 years of age, was a private in the militia of [several illegible words] appears to have been disabled in such a manner while in the service of the united States, as to entitle him to the sum of ten pounds yearly; which allowance is accordingly made him, to commence from the first day of January 1786
Given under my hand at Richmond this 13 day of Novem’r. 1786 P. Henry
The above is a true copy of an original certificate granted to James Hamilton &c
Given under my hand as Governor of the commonwealth of Virginia at Richmond this 6 day of December 1799 James Wood”
That he was in the service of the united states when he was disabled at the Battle of Hot Water in the State of Virginia [26 June 1781] That he hath resided in the County of Augusta from his Birth.

Know all men by these presents that I J. H. of the County of Augusta & state of Virg’a. do make constitute & appoint RG of the City of Richmond my true & lawful attorney – In my behalf to [illegible word] of the Comm’r. of loans[?] for the State of Virginia my Annual Pension as an Invalid of the united states, commencing the 4th Day of Septem 1799 & ending the 4th Day of September 1806 [one line illegible] acts requisite for effecting the premises. Hereby ratifying & confirming all that my said attorney shall Lega[page torn] do therein by Virtue hereof

The County of Augusta to wit
On this thirtieth Day of July 1823 before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace for the said County of Augusta personally appeared James Hamilton who on his oath declares that he is the same person who formerly belonged to the Company Commanded by Captain Patrick Buchannan [Patrick Buchanan] in the Regiment Commanded by Colonel Thomas Hugart in the service of the United States during the Revolutionary war and that he was placed on the Pension List Roll of the Virginia Agency at the rate of $4 43/100 11/15 Dollars per month, and that he has never received a Certificate from the war Department to that affect. NOTE: Alexander Hamilton in his pension application (S9556) stated that he and his brother, John Hamilton, nursed their brother, James Hamilton, after he was dangerously wounded at the Battle of Hot Water.
