Can someone please tell me the approximate location of the Salem Turnpike
of 1889. My ancestor, John Crouse, owned 42 1/2 acres on it near the corporation
limits. It sold in 1889 for $15,600 to a Mr. John Epps. This seems like
a large amount of money for that amount of land. The letter to my gggrandmother
about the sale of her father's property indicated that at the sale there
was a large attendance, including representatives of several syndicates
and the bidding was conducted with considerable spirit. Does anyone know
whether a railroad or something may have been planned there at that time?

I am searching for descendents of GABRIEL ALEXANDER who died in Augusta
Co., VA in 1779. He had a brother named JAMES ALEXANDER (d. 1778 in Augusta
Co., VA) and possibly another brother ANDREW ALEXANDER (d. 1778 or 1779
Augusta Co., VA). I believe that I am descended from Gabriel's son JAMES
ALEXANDER (d. 1809 "Long Meadow" Augusta Co., VA). When Gabriel's son James
dies in 1809, he leaves a will mentioning the following children: John,
William, Gabriel, Andrew*, James, Mary, Dorcus, Martha, Margaret, and Elisabeth.
I believe that I may be descended from Andrew (son of James who dies in
1809). If anyone has any information on this family, it would be greatly
appreciated.

JOHN MURPHY married ELIZABETH LAWSON (daughter of Isaac and Agnes)

know where they moved ? Is this the John Murphy who is counted in 1810

Monroe and Randolph Counties, Illinois (circa 1820) whose son was LAWSON
MURPHY ? Where did JOHN MURPHY (of Rockbridge Co.) come from ? Is he related
to the John Murphy who died at Fort Young in 1763 ? LAWSON MURPHY was born
1810 in "Virginia" and is my g-g-g-grandfather. I have
