Col William Lewis

Col Wm Lewis 3rd son of John Lewis & Margaret Lynn his wife

was born in Ireland in 1724

he was educated at a school in Virginia & received a liberal education, went to Philadelphia where graduated in Medecine

Returning to Virginia he volunteered for service in the War 1753-4

was wounded at the Battle of Braddock’s defeat [9 Jul 1755] – returned to Agusta Co. & practised medecine

            In 1776 he accepted a commission as a Colonel in the old Continental line and served in the Army until 1781 – he removed from Agusta to the Sweet Springs Va 1790, where he died in 1812

Born in Ireland  was one of four brothers, prominent in the Revolutionary War. he was also engage in the French & Indian War under his brother Gen Andrew Lewis
