near German River Road (Route 865) at Criders, Virginia, before you come to the home of
Ogretta Turner and her late husband Warren Turner. |

using headstones, field/river rocks, papers of Warren Souder and Lewis Yankey, J. Robert
Swank’s 1967 records, and through interviews with area residents. Notes by Shirley
Cullers Miller 15 November 2002: "Cemetery is well kept. According to the size, the
sunken places, bought marked tombstones and the rock tombstones, there are 25 to 30 graves
in this cemetery. This is a different cemetery than the large Caplinger community cemetery
near the Criders, Virginia, Post Office." Some refer to cemetery as Whetzel cemetery.
Note from Pat Ritchie: " Franklin Harvey 'Frank' Freed's death certificate states
that he was buried in the Caplinger Cemetery, so this plot was known as the Caplinger
cemetery in 1937." In 1967 J. Robert Swank showed others buried in this cemetery
which are recorded on the listings.
