JACOB BOWMAN, farmer, Sec. 32; P. O. Maquoketa; he was born in Virginia, March 14, 1798, where he resided until 1851, when he came to Jackson Co., and soon bought and located on the farm where he has since lived. He married Elizabeth Keiser in 1823; they have had fourteen children, ten now living - George W., Jacob K., Mary F., Sarah E., Annie L., Nancy, Lizzie, William M., Benjamin F., Stephen H. He owns 240 acres of land, valued at $55 per acre. Himself and wife are members of the Christian Church; Democrat

Jacob Bowman b. 14 Nov. 1789 at Mt. Clinton, VA, son of Peter and Mary Heatwole Bowman. Peter Bowman's father Jacob Bowman was the first settler in Bucks Co., PA. Jacob Bowman's father Wendell Bowman was the first settler in Lancaster Co. PA, having migrated from Switzerland in 1707, a member of the Mennonite Pequot Creek Settlement. Jacob Bowman married Elizabeth Keister 30 Nov. 1823 at Franklin, VA. She was the daughter of George and Susan Peck Keister; and Granddaughter of Frederick and Hannah Dyer Keister. Jacob and Elizabeth Keister Bowman had 14 children, 11 of which migrated to Jackson Co.,IA with their parents in 1851. They came from Mt. Clinton to Parkersburg, VA on the Ohio River and from there down the Ohio to the Mississippi, then North to Jackson Co., Iowa. The children of Jacob and Elizabeth: GEORGE WASHINGTON; JACOB KEISTER; WILLIAM MALCOM; BENJAMIN FRANKLIN; STEPHEN HAMILTON; SUSAN (LARY); MARY FRANCES (KENDALL); SARAH (DEAN); HANNAH (RATHBURN); NANCY (SIMS); ELIZABETH (SIMS); AND POLLY, JOHN AND AN INFANT WHO DIED.
