HITES, MADISON, MERCKLE posted by Beverly A. Harbourt on Sunday, June 15, 1997

I am doing research on the Hites (also spelled Heydt). There is a linkage with Long Meadows, Middletown, Frederick County, Virginia for Hans Jost Hite and his wife Anna Maria Merckle and their ten children, including Isaac Hite Jr. who married Nellie Conway Madison. I have found conflicting information on some of the family as generations moved from Long Meadows to Belle Grove Plantation to Rockingham, Augusta, and Bath Counties. I would like to meld this conflicting data into a complete entry that my daughters can give to their paternal grandparents. As I am fairly new to the genealogy field, any guidance on acquiring source documents and information would be appreciated.

Rachel had one child by her first husband:Archibald RUTHERFORD b. 1813, who remained in VA and became the ward of his uncle and namesake. Following her husband's death, Rachel moved to southern IL where she m.(2) 10 Oct 1821 in Alton, Madison Co. IL, as his second wife, Rev.
