William Silvius, Jr. and his brother Joseph came to Rockingham County from PA in the late 1700's. William stayed and Joseph returned to PA. It appears that all Silviouses in the Valley are descended from William's sons Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Johannes (John). All queries are welcome. April 12, 1851 married Emma Strickler HARRISON on November 16, 1897. Also looking for any history regarding the town of Mauzy, located on the Valley Pike a few miles north of Lacey Spring.

JAMES WASHINGTON ALEXANDER, b. 1821 in Rockingham Co. Va., m. up to five times. He removed through Kanawha Co. WV (1844), and Saline Co. MO (1860) and died in Kansas City MO in 1893. He is the youngest son of William ALEXANDER and Ann BEVANS m. 1803 in Albemarle Co. VA, and grandson of John Sheldon ALEXANDER and Leah/Sarah [FLEMING?] from Somerset Co. MD. J.W. Alexander's brothers and sisters were in neighboring counties in Va., and large family by his uncle Reuben Alexander. Had other uncles Asa and Samuel of which I know nothing. Aunts were Sarah Alexander Walton, and Nancy Alexander Grass. Will exchange info.

Then to Sevier County, Tenn, then to Shelby County, Alabama. Tombstone of Mrs. Dr. West says she Hannah PRENTICE was also born in Rockingham County in 1775. Looking for info on John KESSLER born abt 1790 . John was a veteran of the war of 1812. He first married Susanah VAUGHN. who is buried in Rockingham Co, VA. Then married Elizabeth ? (her mother's maiden name was BARBARY). John and Elizabeth KESSLER then moved to Ohio-Shelby and Clark Counties Can anyone tell me if George KESSLER born about 1840 in Ohio was John's son? I have reason to believe George Mell, Sr. came from Rockingham County from an obituary notice from my GGgrandfather. George Mell, Sr. served in the war of 1812 and was married to (unknown) and had three sons: John Mell, William Mell, and George Mell, Jr. He left Va. and moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio around 1816. Any information you could supply will be greatly appreciated.

I am searching Rockingham Co, Va for three generations of my family. Frederick and Anne Elizabeth (ARMENTROUT) Haines came to Rockingham Co abt 1771 from Berks Co, Pa. Their known children are: John, Frederick, Sr, Peter, Jonas and Catherine. A Casper or Gasper Haines is related somehow. I believe his wife was Margaret. Does anyone have information. He was born ca 1750. Frederick, Sr married Catherine ca 1770. Who is Catherine? Their children were Frederick, Jr, Catherine (KAYLOR), Peter, and John. Frederick, Sr married Barbara PENCE in 1804. Who is Barbara Pence's father? One of their children was Joseph Haines who married Elizabeth BERRY in 1829. Elizabeth was born in 1814. Who are the parents of Elizabeth Berry? Many of these families attended the Peaked Mountain Church near McGayhesville.

Rockingham Co., Va., USA. I'm interested in finding information about ancestors of my g-g-grandfather Anderson Scott CROWDER, b.1836 in Rockingham Co., VA., d.abt. 1915 in Pendelton Co., KY. He married Priscilla E. SIMPSON(1841-1918) in 1855. They had 9 children - Wm.Richard (1856-1919), John James(1861-1947),(my g-grandfather), David L.(1866-1933), Till, Susan(1868-1921), Matilla(1872-?), Hattie(1872-1954), Anderson Scott Jr.(1877-1895), and Alonzo(1880-?). Both Anderson Scott and Priscilla are buried in Knoxville Cemetery in Pendelton Co., KY. Any information on parents,siblings, or other ancestors of Anderson Scott would be greatly appreciated!
