ROGERS, WILSON posted by Patty Jennings-Davis on Sunday, December 7, 1997

Am looking for any information on the descendents of Richard WILSON and wife, Mary ROGERS.  (No birth or death dates)  However, according to "Virginia Valley Records", Rockingham Supplement; pp. 155,156; noting marriages performed by Rev. John Alderson, Jr., states:  Richard WILSON married Mary ROGERS on April 12, 1781, at Linneville Creek Baptist Church.  I'm trying to verify that my great-great-grandfather, Richard D. WILSON, Jr., b. abt. 1782, is one of their sons.  Always thought this to be so but, just recently came across some notes that say Richard D. WILSON, Jr., was the son of a James WILSON (also of VA) and ?KILGORE.  Does anyone have any information on these two Richard WILSON's?

HOOKE posted by Alice Stanley on Wednesday, December 17, 1997

HOOKE, LEWIS J., born in Rockingham County in 1840.  I have his father listed as Jeremiah Hooke, and his grandfather as either Jeremiah or Robert Hooke.  My Great Grandfather, as I understand it, fought in the Civil War as a Confederate soldier; he was working at a mill in Rockingham County at the time and was paid to take the place of the mill's owner.  He fought at the battle of Big Mountain (I believe) and was captured.  After his release, he migrated to Indiana.

DEEDS, MARKEY, MERICA posted by Charles Frederick Merica on Sunday, December 28, 1997

I have been researching the family of John Merica (1) for a number of years and have run into a brickwall in proceeding back.  His name was originally Johannes Markey on his marriage bond dated July 28, 1795 to Elizabeth Deeds, the dau. of Phillip Deeds.  This bond is among the "Burnt Records".  I have it, undocumented,  that he was from Germany and arrived in the Elkton area (Naked Creek) some time in the latter half of the 1700's with three half-brothers.  The only Markeys I have been able to locate so far were Hance Davit (17) and Marcus (45) who landed in Philadelphia 16 September 1736.  Hance settled in Berks Co., PA.  I've checked with two family genealogists of Hance Davit and nothing was known of either a Marcus or Johannes/John Markey.  Any hints, clues, or information would be most appreciated.
