BLACKWELL, FOX, NEWBY posted by Sherrie Carter on Wednesday, April 1, 1998

I am interested in finding out if there was a slaveowner in Rockingham County by the name of John Fox.  Other possible names would've been Samuel Fox, or Elizabeth Fox? Blackwell.  Also, if there is any information available in Rockingham county on slaves (possible free), it would be quite helpful. Apparently, from what I can gather from a list of negroes, John Fox also had slaves in Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Augusta Counties.  He died in 1859 and in a 1839 will, had willed that all of his slaves be set free upon his death. I am looking for any slaves (mulattos) by the name (last) Newby.  Also, were there any slave owners by the name of Newby.  Again, any information you may have or be able to inform me of would be of great assistance.  Thank you.

ANDERSON, BURDETTE, GREEN, LIVELY, PARKER, PORTER, TAGGART, TETER posted by Ed Greene on Saturday, April 4, 1998

I'm researching Francis Burdette GREEN b:c1786 possibly Rockingham Co., VA. His kin and/or parents possibly lived in Linvils Creek and Branch Joe's Creek area. Land Survey for Augusta /Rockingham Co., VA shows a Francis GREEN on 24 Dec 1770, again 19 Dec 1771 and 24 Feb 1787 Adjacent to Francis GREEN land in this same time and area of VA other GREEN neighbors were James GREEN, Robert GREEN and Hugh GREEN. Also an Ezekial GREEN lived near them in Augusta Co., VA. My GREEN families during that c1750-1790 period lived near the TETER families in VA, then in later years they traveled together and intermarried in Randolph Co., IL and Monroe Co., IL. On his tombstone it reads SIR Francis Burdette GREEN and no one in family can figure out where the SIR came from either! Any information would be appreciated. I'm willing to share the information that I have; other family names: LIVELY, BURDETTE, PORTER, TAGGART, PARKER, TETER and ANDERSON.
