Ruckman, John. Rockingham County, Virginia. CA1832-? I am trying to locate birth records for my great grandfather John Ruckman, who was born in Rockingham Co., VA around 1832. He died in Harrison Co., WVA but not sure of the date. He was married to Margaret Sarah Callahan, born about l836. I live in Indiana and do not have easy access to records. I would appreciate any phone numbers or addresses that would help me in this matter. Thank you!

I am searching Rockingham Co, Va for three generations of my family. Frederick and Anne Elizabeth (ARMENTROUT) Haines came to Rockingham Co abt 1771 from Berks Co, Pa. Their known children are: John, Frederick, Sr, Peter, Jonas and Catherine. A Casper or Gasper Haines is related somehow. I believe his wife was Margaret. Does anyone have information. He was born ca 1750. Frederick, Sr married Catherine ca 1770. Who is Catherine? Their children were Frederick, Jr, Catherine (KAYLOR), Peter, and John. Frederick, Sr married Barbara PENCE in 1804. Who is Barbara Pence's father? One of their children was Joseph Haines who married Elizabeth BERRY in 1829. Elizabeth was born in 1814. Who are the parents of Elizabeth Berry? Many of these families attended the Peaked Mountain Church near McGayhesville.

John Nicholas BAKER, Sr., of Strasburg, Shenandoh County, VA, came to America from Germany. He was born 19 Jan 1701 & died 27 Dec 1763. He married 1st 19 Jan 1723 Marie SCHAWNEE and had three children. 2nd marriage 25 Oct 1738 to Marie Alkanie BAYER and had seven children. All children except last child were born in Germany. Children: Phillip Peter Baker SR b 1723 d 1802, m Barbara Schauebic. Heronymus b 1726. Anthony b 1736. Abelleny b 1740. Margent b 1741. Weicher b 1745. John Nicholas Jr b 1742. Phillipus b 1751. A daughter b 1755. In Robert Helsley BAKER genealogy book, 1992-53 with revisions in 1954-56, the families of Phillip Peter BAKER, SR and of Phillip Peter BAKER, Jr. are given. There is no information on the families of the other sons of John Nicholas BAKER Sr. The book inplies that some went to Rockingham Co, VA. I am seeking parents and other siblings of Isaac BAKER, born abt 1757 in VA, married Hannah HOUSTON, daughter of James & Agnes Wilson Houston of Staunton, VA. Both Isaac BAKER and the James HOUSTON family were in what is now Greene CO, TN by 1777-1780. Could this Isaac BAKER be the son of one of John Nicholas BAKER SR'S other sons?

Looking for information on James R. WALDON, born Rockingham County, 1811 according to sources. Father was Thomas WALDON, mother Ruth ?. Known siblings are Edward, Jeremiah, Delilah but know there were others as well. They left Virginia shortly thereafter and appear in Illinois in about 1826. James moved on to Missouri about 1854. Any help most appreciated!

Looking for Jacob SNELL of Rockingham Co., VA, probably born about 1800. Jacob married Barbara HASHRBARGER (b. 1800 in Rockingham Co., VA), daughter of Henry HARSHBARGER and Elizabeth RHINEHART. I believe Henry was the son of Christian HARSHBARGER and Caroline FUNK. Jacob and Barbara moved to Miami Co. Ohio in 1829-1831, along with most of Henry's family. They were Church of the Brethern (Dunkards). Any information about these families is welcome. I haven't found anything about Jacob prior to his marriage. Thank you.

I am seeking information on Catherine LAY, born in VA in 1818 or 1819. or George W. LANNON born in VA in 1817 or 1818. The two moved to Franklin Co. MO prior to 1842 and were married there. I have seen reference to LAY in Rockingham Co. and would like to know if Catherine could be among them.

Tazwell Moubray (sometimes spelled,Moubry,Mowbry,Mowbray) b. abt.1827. Possible father's name Zachary. Possible brother's name Franklin. Tazwell Moubray appears to have been married at least twice. One wife is Rachel b. abt. 1829. Children are: Ellen b. abt. 1855, Benjamin b. abt. 1849, Tazewell b. abt. 1866. Another wife's name is Sarah Ann Smith b. abt. 1852. Children of this union are James Calvin b. abt. 1881, Charles b. abt.1887, John b. abt. 1889, Clarissa b. abt. 1879, Mary b. abt. 1877, Emily b. abt. 1883, Susie b. abt. 1884. Any information is apreicated.

My particular interest is Peter Long and Margaret (Ewing??) the parents of William Long ( b. 1801 Rockingham Co, VA) married Mary Dice (b. 9 Jun 1803, Hardy Co, WV). William and Mary were married on 13 Mar 1821 Greene Co, OH., and had six children. William then married Clarissa Mallow on 11 Feb 1845, and they had five children. William was the son of Peter Long and Margaret (Ewing??). Peter and Margaret apparently had eight children: William, Peter, Adam, Henry, Margaret, Martha, Catherine, and Diana. At some point after the birth of William in 1801, Peter and Margaret moved from Virginia to Greene CO. Peter died 27 Aug 1833 and is buried in Shook Cemetary in Greene Co. Margaret died much later in Greene County.

Looking for information on the family of Martin COFFMAN (1773-1857) m. 1798, Sarah WHITEHOUSE, d/o John WHITEHOUSE. Martin and Sarah had 11 children. The family left Rockingham Co, VA, in 1807, to move to Fairfield Co, OH. Martin's parents may have been Jacob COFFMAN (d. 1796, Linville, Rockingham Co, VA) and Elizabeth HOLDIMAN. I would like to prove this parentage!

Looking for parents/siblings of Catherine SEMNER/SEMER in Rockingham Co., VA. She married a FOLAND, then William Christian SOWERWINE (1839 in IN). Catherine was born possibly ca 1790-1800. I have no information on her. William Christian was also b. Rockingham Co. 7 July 1793. Anything would be appreciated.
