I am seeking information on Lewany (Lurany, Luvania) Shiflett (b. abt. 1820, d. 7 Jun 1888) who married William Jefferson Morris (b abt. 1818) on 23 Jul 1840. Her parents were John Brock Shiflett and Rhoda Ann Shiflett. Brothers and sisters were Turner, Tempey, Christiny, Winny, Elizabeth, and Artimissa Shiflett. Lewany and William Jefferson Morris are shown as living in Rockingham County in the 1850 Census. Their children were Louisa, William, Rhoda, Susan, Silas, John Willis, Luraney, Mitt, J.P., Henry John J., and Jefferson S. Morris. Any information would be appreciated.

I am trying to find the names of the parents of my great, great grandfather, William HAMILTON, b. 25 Jul, 1783, SC, whose parents, migrated from VA, I believe, and migrated to Claiborne Co., TN, then settled in Lincoln Co., TN, by 1840. He mar. Rachel HUNTER, 1808 in Speedwell, Claiborne Co., TN. She was born , 15 Mar, 1791 or 1792, in Weaver's Creek, Pickens Co., SC. , dau. of Henry HUNTER, and Barbara BOLLINGER, and granddau.of Rev, soldier, John HUNTER, and Barbara BOWMAN. William HAMILTON served in the War of 1812 as Captain of Co.,E, under Col., Lilliard. He died , April, 1853, in/near Millville, Lincoln Co., TN, and is buried in the Stone Cemetery in Lincoln Co., TN.

Looking for parents of Catherine Will, born 1796 in New Market, VA m. Isaac Long in 1815. Isaac was born in 1787 in Rock Castle, VA. They eloped and Catherine was disowned because she married an Irishman. Catherine's mother's name was Catherine Miriah. Catherine died in 1864 in Crittenden Co., KY and Isaac died in 1869 near Hampton, KY.

I am hoping to find the parents of Isaac Fulk. He was born in Rockingham,VA in 1810. He married Melvina Cherryholmes on Nov. 11, 1839. They had at least one child, Hiram Fulk, who worked on the Western Maryland Railroad. Does anyone have information to verify that Catherine Fulk had a child out of wedlock by Michael Baker Jr., and that child was given the name Isaac Fulk?

I am looking for directions to three Rockingham County cemeteries and information on the burials there. They are the Brenneman Cemetery in Edom; the St John's Lutheran Church in Singer's Glen and the Rhodes Family Cemetery in Broadway. The names of those buried are Acker/Ocker, Swank and Barnes. The burials took place through out the 19th century. I have an opportunity to visit these cemeteries the week of 07/26/99 and want to photograph any gravestones relating to the Surnames.

After submitting my previous query, I discovered a John Henry TAFLINGER, b. 1/4/1833 in Rockingham Co., VA; m. 11/18/1855 to Mary Jane MOYERS also in Rockingham County. My ancestors who would have lived in this same time period were supposedly named John TAFFLINGER and Mary Ann MOWREY/ MOWERY/MAURER. May or may not be a match. Does anyone have information on the children of John Henry and Mary Jane, or know if they moved to Allen County, OH?

Looking for any information on David HOOVER, born 17 Jan. 1837. He married Emma WINTERS and they moved onto Indiana and then Missouri. They were in Indiana in 1873 but in Missouri by 1874 or 1875. He died in Harrison Co., Missouri in Oct. 1916. He and Emma had 10 children; Martha Jane; Joseph Pratt, Hettie Ellen, William Henry, Simon Peter, John Jacob, Margaret Rebecca, Ida May, Charles E. and Sarah Elvira.

Samuel and Eliza Bechtle lived in Dayton, Rockingham County, from before 1840 until ? I am looking for descendants in order to exchange information. I have Eliza's line back to about 1720, but know nothing of Samuel. I am researching the line of Eliza's brother and am trying to "flesh out" the family, particularly during the 1790-1850 time period when they began moving west.

Happy to exchange information on John Hollebee (Holoby, Hollaby, Holybee, etc.) who was in War of 1812, in Capt.
