Am wanting information on William THOMAS who married Mary Ann LAYMAN, @ 1868. William was listed as Buck THOMAS, in the Rockingham County census, 1870. Mary Ann LAYMAN was the mother of my GGrandfather, Joseph J. DORSEY, who was living in Harrisonburg when he died in April 1953. Joseph's father, moved with Abygail BAKER to Missouri, and I want to know if Joseph's parents, Joseph G. & Mary Ann LAYMAN were married. Mary Ann had two sons-Lewis and Samuel THOMAS.

Looking for info on the HAYS family in Rockingham and Augusta County Virginia in the 1750-1800 time period. Specifically looking for John HAYS born before 1790 who left for Kanawha County WV about 1800. There may have been a connection between the HAYS and YOUNG families. Margaret Elizabeth HAYS married Conrad YOUNG about 1780-1790. Looking for John's parents and siblings and connection with early HAYS in the region. Also, could be possible HAYS came from Lancaster PA as did the YOUNG family. Please email me if you can.

I am looking for information on Timothy Conley/Conly of Rockingham Co.,VA. He is listed on the 1810 census living near David and John Conley and several Meadows families. Timothy Conley and wife Elizabeth ? are listed as the parents of Elizabeth Conley that married Jeremiah Isaac Meadows in Rockinham Co.,VA before 1790. Jacob Meadows was listed as the bondsman for the marriage. Timothy Conley was listed as a soldier for VA in the Rev. War. He may have been from Augusta Co.,VA. Any information on Timothy Conley or his possible sons David and John is appreciated. John Conley was listed in Rockinghma Co.,VA census up to at least 1840.

Have guardianship dated 1836 for minor children of James, but found no estate record which might have identified Jeremiah as an heir, eldest son or something. Searching for wife and children of Jonathan LOOKER (1790-1856), son of James LOOKER and Frances Russell LOOKER, of Rockingham County, VA. Most of James LOOKER's children moved to Fairfield Co., OH, but apparently not Jonathan, who may have stayed on the family land to help his parents. He had a twin, Joseph, who moved to Fairfield Co. with the other siblings.

Searching for children of Barsheba (Barshaba) LOOKER and George RHODES. Barsheba LOOKER was born in Rockingham County, VA in 1792 to James LOOKER and Frances RUSSELL LOOKER. The land the LOOKERS owned were in the foothills of the Massanutten in the northern section of Mountain Valley and eventually passed down to the RHODES family, who, as of 1980, still owned it. Was one of the children of Barsheba LOOKER and George RHODES a major in the Texas Rangers during the Civil War on the confederate side?

JOHN GORDON was b. 1761 in Augusta/Rockingham Co., Virginia, was in the 14th Regiment during the Revolution, and moved to Cole Co. Missouri around 1800. He married Penelope Pope, and they had Alexander Gordon, a founder of Jefferson City. He married Catherine Schell and later Nancy Askrins. Alexander and Catherine had James Alexander, who married Mary Anne Rebecca Brooks. Alexander and James struck it rich in the California gold fields and were farmers. Mary Ann was a rabid Confederate and ran dispatchs through the union lines with her horse and buggy. They had Henry Burns Gordon, the first plastic-surgery patient at Mayo Cinic in Rochester, Minn. He married Martha Elizabeth WILSON, and moved to Minnesota with the family. They had Arthur Boone Gordon, my grandfather, who married Nelle Jones (Born in Sheldon, Vernon Co. Mo. in 1900). They had my mother, Mary Ann Gordon.

Robert ALLISON was born near Chambersburg, Franklin Co PA 15 Mar 1781. By 1810, Robert and his wife Hedessa SMITH were in Rockingham Co. He early appears on John Moor's land. They may have lived in West Virginia first. Hedessa Smith's father was Conrad Smith, a Hessian soldier. She was apparently born in PA. We have not proved Robert Allison's parents, nor do we have any information on the Conrad Smith family.The Allisons migrated to Clinton Co IA in the 1850s.

Three NORMAN children were married in Rockingham Co. Patsy Norman married 19 Nov 1816 James MAHONEY. Mary Norman married 2 April 1822 Joseph CLINE. John Norman married 19 Sep 1829 Mary ALLISON. Their father was Joseph Norman who died 1808-1816. We cannot place this Joseph in any Norman family. We would also like information on Larkin and William Norman who appear in the censuses during this period. A William Norman signed the marriage bond for Mary Norman.
