In the name of God amen.
Joshua Redwine of Russell County State of Virignia, being of sound mind and disposing of body do make this to be my last will and testament as follows, that is to say. My desire is to be buried with as little expense as decency will permit and that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as conveniently may be.
First I will and bequeath to my dear wife Rosanna and Mary my daughter in testimony of my regard and affection for them the full sum of one thousand dollars lawful money of Virginia. I also will and bequeath all my cleared land on the west side of Elk Garden Ridge and also one field on each side of said ridge some seven or eight acres lying east and west to them for sustenance and if my daughter Mary should live longer than my wife Rosanna the one thousand dollars shall be held in reserve or that part which which shall not be consumed by my executor for the sustenance of my daughter Mary if needed. And I will that firewood and repairing timber shall be had from beyond the Elk Garden Ridge, firewood taken from timber that is of no value for building or farming, all got on the right side of road crossing said ridge and that portion of my plantation exclusive of that which is above ____ lying beyond E. G. Ridge I will that it shall be rented out yearly for the highest rent by my executor during my wifes natural life. I also will to my wife all the buildings, household & kitchen furniture, two cows and one horse, some two or three pigs, farming tools on said place and if said testator at his death should have more grain or provinder than his wife should consume in twelve months, my executor shall sell the surplus.
Secondly I will and bequeath that at my wifes death or natural existence ceases, the whole tract of land or place be sold by my executor including household and kitchen furniture, farming utensils and whatsoever may be found in hands of executor. As to moneys or properties each properties and moneys and distribution of whole sale be made in the following manner namely to my heirs David B. Redwine, Rolling R. Redwine, Ann Sample, formerly Ann Redwine, Nancy Davenport, formerly Nancy Redwine, Solomon Redwine, Elizabeth Bowman, formerly Elizabeth Redwine, Jane Garrett, formerly Jane Redwine and Joshua Redwine, Jr., my lawful heirs, and that these shall be an equal distribution of my whole worth with the above named heirs whose claims for and against each are adjusted, shown on this sheet by testator. David B. Redwine received land, money and property nine hundred and thirty dollars. Rolling R. Redwine received land, eleven hundred and thirty three and one third dollars. Ann Samle rec’d money notes and property twelve hundred and sixty four dollars and ninety one cents, one hundred and thirty dollars being taken away as a gift by testator namely one gray mare which subtracted from her above amount leaves eleven hundred and thirty four dollars and nnety one cents. Nancy Davenport received by cash notes and property nine hundred and ninety four dollars. Solomon Redwine received land, money & property, twelve hundred and twenty five dollars and fifty cents which tract of land of mine lying in Scott County VA I wil to Solomon Redwine during his natural life and at his death to his hears, Cumming Redwine excepted. Elizabeth Bowman, money, property and notes, one thousand and thirty three dollars and thirty six cents, Jane Garrett received by notes, cash & property nineteen hundred and sixteen dollars & eighty five cents. Joshua Redwine, Jr. received land, money and property, one thousand and ninety two dollars. And I do hereby appoint Rolling R. Redwine to be executor of this my will and testament and do hereby declare these presents to be and contain my will and testament for witness whereof I the said testator, Joshua Redwine have to this my said will written upon one sheet of paper and to it set my hand & seal this 17 March 1859.

The last will and testament of Joshua Redwine dec’d was produced in court and proved by the oaths of Thadders P. Thomas and John Morrison the two subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Rolling R. Redwine the executor therein named who took the oath of an executor prescribed by law and entered into and acknowledged his bond in the sum of $15,000.00 wth Aaron S. Hendricks and Isaac Vermillion as his securities conditioned as the law directs, a certificate is therefore granted him for obtaining probate of the said will in due form.
