Big Red Auto Car

1909

The First to Visit Gate City Since Days of Columbus.

The first automobile that was ever seen in Gate City passed through going west Tuesday at noon. In the big 40-horse power roadster were Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Doerdoefer, of Louisville Ky., accompanied by a "shover."

The people left Louisville six weeks ago and have been as far east as Portland, Maine. They were returning home. They reported good progress over our mountain roads, but of course were somewhat wearied with their long trip. Their rout e from here was by Clinch port. Pattonsville, thence through Lee county to Cumberland Gap.
