KINGSPORT, TENNESSEE, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1928BARNETT TRIAL AT GATE CITY REVIEW OF FIRST MURDER
John Barnett Going Thru Second Trial,
SAME WITNESSES ARE USED BY THE STATE
Trial Degenerates Into Review of First Case,
(Special to The Times)
GATE! CITY, Feb. 3—The trial of John Barnett on the charge of murdering Will Frazier last September 20, continued in Scott County circuit court this morning, the commonwealth still presenting the same array of prosecutionwitnesses that testified at Barnett's recent trial for the murder of Will's father, Creed Frazier.
All witnesses so far called to the stand by the prosecution have recited the same story that they told formerly and the trial has degenerated into nothing but a review of the former trial and a repetition of the testimony offered then. It is expected that the prosecution will finish the presentment of witnesses either this afternoon or early in the morning and rest their case then.
Barnett shot and killed the two Fraziers at a sawmill about four miles west of Speer's Ferry the afternoon of last September 20. The shooting is said to have been the culmination of bad feelings between the Fraziers and Barnettsover disputed timber land. Barnett was convicted of the murder of Creed Frazier when tried last week. Life imprisonment was recommended by the jury.
