Many Up To Date Stores, Large and Small, Are Located In One Of Oldest Towns in Southwest Virginia and Upper East Tennessee.
The retail section of Gate City, for many years has been the trading center of Scott County, Va., and the surrounding communities for many years.
Retailers in that section have conducted stores for many years, among which are M. J. McConnell Furniture Store, Nickels Department Store and several other small establishments.
M. J. McConnell Furniture Store is one of he most up-to-date furniture establishments in this section. A complete line of the newest furniture is always on display at this store. Mr. McConnell also runs a funeral home in connection with the furniture store, giving Scott County first class mortuary services.
This furniture store is one of the oldest places of business in Gate City, having operated for many years. The store has always kept step with progress and is always one of the first to install the most up-to-date stock. The efficient service and high grade merchandise of M. J. McConnell Furniture Store places it among the leaders in this section.
Nickels Department Store, one of the largest in this immediate area is probably the best in the county. A full line of men’s clothing, ladies’ ready to wear, hardware, shoes and many other minor lines to numerous to mention.
Mr. Nickels has been conducting this business for a number years and efficient services and high grade merchandise stamps Nickels Department Store as one of the leaders.
The building now occupied by Nickels Department Store is many years old, being constructed when Gate City was in its infancy.
The Gate City Pharmacy is one of the leading stores in Gate City, having been operating for several years. This drug company has grown rapidly during the last few years due to its efficient service.
The California, an up-to-the-minute sandwich shop, is one of Gate City’s newest business firms. This place has grown rapidly in the past few months and now has a thriving business.
Cross’ Barber Shop, located directly in front of the Gate City Bank, is one of the best of its kind in Scott County. Mr. Cross, manager of the shop, employees only the best barbers. This shop’s efficient service and high class work has drawn much trade.
Gate City is fortunate in having so many progressive establishments. Scott County is even more fortunate for they are served by a city within its own border.
