  • Retired archaeologist L. B. "Lefty" Gregory, and Past-President/Newsletter Editor, Bo Bohannan, will be at the Surry County Historical Society on Bank Street in Surry, from 1:00PM to 4:00PM on the third Wednesday of each month to chat about archaeology and twentieth-century pop culture.
    Bo is creating an Encyclopedia of Pop Culture with more than 100 illustrated volumes. He will bring sample volumes. It's amazing! Come see!
    Lefty has worked at many archaeological sites, including Claremont Manor, Flowerdew Hundred, Maycocks, Weyanoke Old Town, the Yorktown Battlefield and more. He will be available to chat about archaeology and identify artifacts that people bring.

    The public is invited to visit and chat with the experts every third Wednesday afternoon!


  • Surry White Families Page has been updated. Many new names have been added.

  • Photographs of Family Bible pages for Thompson, Wilson and Wills are now available.

  • Ground was broken for the Captain John Smith Ferry Project on Sunday, 5 April 2009. The committee for restoration of the deckhouse of the historic ferry presented their updated 2010 REPORT with pictures! This project is moving forward, a grant has been received and another grant is promised on condition that we raise matching funds. Please help us with your donations of time and money. See the 2011 REPORT, a Word document by Bill Fox, for the latest information.

  • A NEW BIOGRAPHY, Devine Will, Restless Heart: The Life and Works of Dr. John Jefferson Smallwood, by Mary E. C. Drew is now available. (You need Adobe Reader to view this file.) If you missed the book-signing on November 13, 2010, you can buy it here.
