BRIERY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Briery Presbyterian Church was believed to have been organized between 1755 and 1760 by the Rev. Robert Henry; however, the names and number of the first members are not known. The first ruling Elders were Joseph Morton, George Walton, and Sherwood Walton. According to the Briery Manual published in December 1828, "In 1766, a plan was adopted for establishing a permanent fund for the support of the gospel. About three hundred pounds was obtained by subscription and appropriated to the purchase of servants." There were 72 original subscribers.
