This Deed made the first day of October 1873, between Henry Jacob and Elizabeth Harris (his wife) of
Prince Edward County Virginia and John Bowly of Gloucestershire England of the first part, and
Bartholomew Smith of Thirsk Yorkshire England of the second part. Witnesseth: That for and in
consideration of the sum of Two Thousand pounds good and lawful money of the Kingdom of Great
Britain, the said Henry Jacob and Elizabeth Harris (his wife) and the said John Bowly do grant unto the
said Bartholomew Smith, with Covenants of General Warranty, All that tract or parcel of land with the
improvements thereon lying and being in the County of Prince Edward and State of Virginia containing
five hundred and thirty (530) acres bounded by the lands of H C Thackston, T Price, H A Watkins, John
Dillon, W B Buch, W A Womack, Wiley P Gilliam and John Hatcher and divided from the estate of the
late D F Womack by Muddy Creek as the same is laid down on the plat annexed to this deed, it being the
same property (except sixty (60) acres since sold and conveyed to the aforesaid John Hatcher) which was
conveyed to the said Henry Jacob and John Bowly from Geo. W. Booker (Trustee) Jane M Womack, David
G Womack, Mattie Womack, James W Womack, John J Franklin and Jenny C Franklin by deed dated the
20th day of July 1871, and duly recorded in the Clerks Office of Prince Edward County Virginia.

Prince Edward County to wit

I, Wm D Rice a Notary Public for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do certify
that Henry Jacob and Elizabeth Harris (his wife) whose names are signed to the writing above dated the 1st
day of October 1873 have acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid, And that the said
Elizabeth Harris wife of the said Henry Jacob being examined by me privily and apart from the said
husband and having the writing aforesaid f ully explained to her, she the said Elizabeth Harris Jacob,
acknowledged the said writing to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly executed the same
and did not wish too retract it.

Gloucestershire To Wit

I, Thomas Masling, a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid in the Kingdom of
Great Britain, do certify that John Bowly whose name is signed to the writing above dated the 1st Day of
October 1873 personally appeared before me in my County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his
act and deed.
