Enlistment came primarily from Wise County, VA.  The chapter was named for Captain Logan Neil Salyer. Also for our beloved and revered General Robert E. Lee. Salyer-Lee originally chartered  on August 30, 1912 with 24 charter members.

The founding president was Hattie Salyer Taylor, a daughter of Captain Salyer.

 The Salyer-Lee Chapter 1417 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy was re-chartered on June 17, 2002.
