I I learned from a woman that she found a Jonathan CARPENTER in Spotsylvania Co., VA who died before 1764 and left atleast two children: a son Jonathan and a daughter John Anne. These are the only details I have gotten on this family. But this VA CARPENTER family warrants interest because it is full of Jonathans before 1764, whereas my NC CARPENTER family is full of Jonathans after 1764. Would anybody know anything about this family, or about any CARPENTERs in Spotsylvania Co. in the 1700s or earlier?
Additionally, it appears that there may have been an OWEN or OWENS who married into my CARPENTER family sometime before 1745. There may also have been a TEMPLE or TEMPLETON who married into these CARPENTERs anytime before 1765. Indeed one woman researching MAHANs in Spotsylvania Co. has found a William Templeton MAHAN and there is every indication that the full name of my ancestor Temple CARPENTER was William Templeton CARPENTER. I would love to know about any TEMPLETONs in Spotsylvania Co. Any information about any of this would be extremely welcome. Thanks.

SMITH, Augustine - I would like to know the spouse and parentage of the Augustine Smith, who died in Orange Co. in 1736 (two years after its formation from Spotsylvania), and was the father of the Mary Smith who m. Robert Slaughter. Every Smith researcher I have spoken with gives a different wife and different ancestry for this Augustine - I think because there was more than one (possibly more than two) who were contemporaries in Orange, Essex, and Fauquier Counties. Any excerpt of records giving a spouse's name (I think it was Mary), or indication of his parents, would be appreciated.
