Looking for information on the PENN Family of SPOTSYLVANIA County. I have a George PENN b~1818 in VA that lived in Shenandoah Co, VA after 1860 and was in Coles Co. IL for the 1850,1860 census. He married to 1. Elizabeth CRAWFORD in 1845 and 2. Elizabeth McCORMICK in 1858, both in Coles Co. IL. He bought land from John O. PENN in Shenandoah Co, VA., Sept 12 1866. John O. PENN b. 29MAR1823 in Spotsylvania Co. Thomas PENN married Rebecca LAMERSON in Shenandoah Co, VA 26AUG1836, then to Crawford and Shelby Co, IL. Shelby Co. IL land holdings were close to Coles Co. I suspect these three are brothers, they were born within a 5 year span. Suspected parents are Thomas PENN and Mary MASTIN who were married in Spotsylvania Co. in 26 FEB1812 and had a courtcase in 1818 (VA Herald). Their children in the 1820 census match Thomas and George agewise. Any help on straightening out my thoughts of the PENN's in Early Spotslyvania County appreciated.

William TURNAGE b-1747 Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Va.
I've looked everywhere I can think of for more information on this ancestor. He shows up in Chesterfield Co., SC Censuses from 1790-1820. He died in 1823. One source has his wife's name as Mary; another as him being married to a woman named Selah. William is alledged to be the father of my ancestor, John TURNAGE, b-1784, Chesterfield dist., SC. I'm beginning to think that I might have a generation missing, and that William might be John's grandfather.
Any help given is much appreciated.

I am researching CARTER. We believe there is a Middlesex (Wm. 1660-1709 and Mary GOODLOE CARTER) connection and a Spotsylvania connection through the descendents of the Middlesex CARTERs. The CARTERs bought land that had been part of Larkin CHEWs land grant and the Chew land had references to "salt ponds". The relative I am trying to ascertain was called John "Salt Springs" CARTER and he lived in Laurens Co., SC. I believe he may have been from VA. The above Wm. CARTER's son was George CARTER b. 1692 in Middlesex Co. Christ Church Parish and his wife was Eliz. PROCTOR...several of their children migrated outside of Middlesex...dau. Frances b. 1714 (no info); Henry b.1718=Eliz. ____ to Berkeley Parish, Spotsylvania; Anne b. 1720=John LEA moved from Spotsylvania VA to Orange Co., NC; George b.1723=(no info on Geo.); Benjamin b. 1725=Eliz. "Betty" BLAKEY moved from Spotsylvania to Chester District SC; Jacob b.abt. 1727 (no info on Jacob). I believe John "Salt Springs" Carter is related to one of these people. A John CARTER received a land grant from King George III in the old Ninety Six District of SC in 1768. A John "Salt Springs" CARTER received a land grant from the governor of SC in 1786 in Berkeley Co (Old Ninety Six and Old Berkeley area of these grants is now Laurens Co SC). This would make John "Salt Springs" birth before or around 1740? I would appreciate any help on this family and also any info on where the salt pond or Carter's Pond might be (it could even be in present day Caroline Co VA).

Want info on Mack MCDANIEL who bought land in 1778 Spotsylvania and with wife, Lucy, sold same in late 1781 before going to KY. He was at the Falls of the Ohio (now Louisville) in Lincoln Co KY by January of 1783. He traveled eastward across KY, finally settling in Bracken County, He was born about 1860, and I believe him to be the brother of my ancestor, John MCDANIEL. Mack not listed among the followers of the "Travelling Church," but his daughter Phebe was married to Isaac COCHRAN in 1797 by Simeon Walton, mentioned in "Travelling Church" records, as were my ancestors Richard KING and Mary DAILY in 1798. Both marriages took place in Bracken. Does anyone know maiden name of Mack's wife Lucy? Who my John married?
There is an outside chance that these families knew the HAWKINS
family, as Catherine (CRAIG) HAWKINS married second to a John KING
who may have been related to my ancestor, John KING, father of
Richard who married Mary Daily.
Willing to share all I know freely. Help appreciated.
