I am looking for information about Robert G. LAYTON. What I know of him and his family is:
I found this document in King George County which refers to a circuit superior court of law and chancery held for the County of Spotsylvania in Fredericksburg.
The case involves one Elizabeth R. English against Robert Slaughter formerly sheriff of Culpepper county. Others are named as defendants: Henry F. Roe, Mary Roe, John Roe, Bernard Roe.
I'd like to know if anyone is familiar with this case, or if anyone can do a look up for me. The document I found in the deed book of KG county doesn't make much sense.
I'm researching ROEs who owned my ancestors as slaves. They were mostly concentrated in Westmoreland, King George, Fauquier, and Prince William County, but I discovered this possible link in Spotsylvania over the summer.
Any ROE info from this county would be appreciated.

Is anyone researching MORRIS / MORRISS lines from these counties in VA: Spotsylvania, Richmond, Orange, Fauquier, Bedford, Westmoreland, King George. Mine seemed to have picked a new county for each life event.
The descendants of Ewell/Youel MORRISS went to Lincoln and Pike Co., MO. I am not sure if this family is related to the Israel MORRIS line (son of Jacob and Hannah [BURDINE] MORRIS of Loudoun/Bedford Co.) that also settled there, but maybe. This family was biased towards spelling their name with 2 s', suggesting literacy, since they would have to constantly be correcting the recorder's spelling. I have more on the descendants of Sanders, Hannah, Margaret, Simon, and Ewell.
Here is the line:
1. Charles MORRISS, b.c.1712; d.1797 Westmoreland Co., VA. m. to Hannah [RICE?]
Three known children of Ewell MORRISS went to Lincoln/Pike Co. areas of MO: Charles Rice MORRISS m. Elizabeth MASON (to Pike then Lincoln ca1838), John T. MORRISS m. Emily A. SCOTT (to Pike ca.1855 or 1856) and James Y. MORRISS m. Judith B. STEWART (to Pike ca1855). Would appreciate any information on these and other children of Ewell: William B., George Green, Frederick M., Austin A., Jane E. and Margaret H.
Would appreciate any information on the ancestors and descendants of Charles and Hannah [RICE?] MORRISS.

I have seen a family of SOUTHARD residing in Spotslyvania Co VA in the 1700's and 1800's: Do any of their descendants still live in the vacinity, or are there Genies who descend from these Southards, that can place the following family as a branch of 'this tree'?
James SOUTHARD marr about 1821 Mary Ann PHILLIPS, b] about 1805; in the year 1828, they lived in Amherst Co. VA, and they had 3 children: Lemuel, b]1822; Eldrige, b]1823, and Christina b]1828. This family left VA to migrate West in 1828, and never returned to VA. Eldest son Lemuel said his parents James & Mary Ann SOUTHARD "were early VA settlers, the family coming from England." Do the names of their children, somewhat unusual, appear in any family line, as a clue to the parents of James SOUTHARD and/or Mary Ann PHILLIPS?
Thanks for any referrals or clues hiding in your ancestral charts.

I am trying to find out about MILLBROOK, the property at which Betty Washington Lewis resided after the sale of her former home, Kenmore, following the death of her husband, Fielding Lewis. My grandfather, Robert Watkins HINES, purchased Millbrook in the 1930's from the New York Insurance Company. and my father, Thomas Frazer HINES, sold the property in the early 1970's. Millbrook is located approximately 2 miles west of the Spotsylvania County Courthouse on Route 608. At the time it was purchased it was over 700 acres and several outbuildings. I am interested in pictures, drawings or plans of the structure and surrrounding property. Robert Watkins Hines and his wife Mattie Anderson FRAZER Hines resided there from the mid 1930's till about 1973. Mattie Anderson Frazer and her family owned COVENTRY, about 5,000 acres located between I-95 and the Spotsylvania Courthouse on the east side of Route 208.
