RICKS/REEKS/RIX -As early as 1672 there was a RICKS family in Prince George County. In 1830, there were heads of household still in the county. Charles P. Ricks and James P. Ricks appear on pp. 54-55. William RIX (2) is on the 1850 census, pp. 69, 91. There were other known family members in Albemarle, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Surry and Sussex Counties, and are not to be confused with the Ricks family of Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties. Are there descendants of this family who might contribute to the family history of descendants of the progenitor, Richard Ricks? Of special interest is material after 1775. Donald M. Ricks, CGRS. DROMGOOLE, HANCOCK, HARRISON, PEARSON, RANDLE, RANDOLPH, STOKES, TILGHMAN, TILLMAN - Seeking information for John Harrison, born 1760 Virginia, died 26 Jun 1822 Brunswick Co., married Lucy ?Tillman? ca 1782, she died before 1799. They had the following children: (1) Joseph Harrison, b. 13 Oct 1783 Br.Co., died 21 Jun 1840 Murfreesboro, Tn., married Anthenia Hancock, 4 Nov 1807; (2) Mary Harrison, b. 26 Jul 1786, Br.Co., died 1805 Br. Feb 1827 Br. Co., maried Mary Ann (Polly) Pearson 28 Nov 1810. John Sr. maried (2) Dorothy Rawlings Hancock on 7 Nov 1799, she died 25 Apr 1840 Br. Co.; they had one child, William Coleman Harrison b. 15 Feb 1801 who married Rebecca Dromgoole. Don't know where John was buried but have been attempting to get a copy of "Harrisons of Talbot County--Tilgman, Md.", by Antionette H. Covington Harison, 1970, because of the Tillman/Tilghman connection. Seeking marriage record for John Harrison and Lucy who was possible a Tillman. In 15 Feb 1797, Edward Branch married Martha Tillman, Lucy Harrison attests to her age. Is this a clue? Do not have record of John Sr's siblings or his ancestors but have many pages of his descendants. Appreciate any guidance you can give on this family.

A citation in the Virginia Magazine suggested that the Family of Randle-Randolph was of the Sussex/Surry Counties in Virginia. There is a connection between Randle/Randolph-Tillman- Harrison that is especially valid if John Harrison's wife was Lucy Tillman. William Randle had a daughter named Anne Randle who married Richard Tillman. This Richard was a cousin of Lucy Tillman who may be the wife of John Harrison. Richard and Anne are part of the first sale of land to John Harrison in Brunswick County (8th Jan 1783). Richard and Ann Tillman were living in Montgomery County, NC by that time. Many lists show name as Randolph, but descendants spell Randle.

KNIGHT, EPPS, JORDAN - Seeking information on KNIGHT, EPPS, and JORDAN lines in Henrico, Nottoway, and Sussex Counties. I am trying to gather information on the following line: Mertillo Fitzhenry Knight (b. 1813 Notoway Co VA) + Nancy Taylor I believe Mertillo's parents were: Coleman Knight + Nancy Knight (they were first cousins). Desparately seeking proof of this connection!! Coleman's parents were: Charles Knight Sr. (b. abt 1731) + Mary Smith. Coleman had a brother named Charles Knight Jr. Nancy's parents were: Peter Knight (b. abt 1734 Goochland Co. VA) and Coleman Mason (odd name for a woman) Charles and Peter's parents were: John Knight Sr. (b abt 1705 Henrico Co. VA) + Elizabeth Woodson (b 1711/1713 Henrico Co. VA) Elizabeth was the dau of Robert Woodson (b atb 1664 Henrico Co. VA) and Rachel Watkins (his 2nd wife) (b. abt 1670 henrico Co. VA). In additon to Charles and Peter they had Jonathan, Charles Sr., William, Elisabeth, Judith, Woodson, Mary, Joseph, Rachel, Lucy - all being mentioned in John's will - along with his wife Elizabeth John Knight Sr. (he carries this Sr. designation even tho his dad's name was John) parents were John Knight and Elizabeth ??? I think the ??? is Epps. Others think it Jordan - thus the confusion. I think John Knight Sr.'s brothers and sisters were William, Jordan, Sara, Joel, Edward, Peter, Richard, Anne, and Mary. (The son named Jordan throws me - maybe her last name was Jordan) Would appreciate any information that resolves the Epps/Jordan confusion. Thanks Pat

CLARK/CLARKE, CLAYTON, DUNCAN, KING, PANTER/PAINTER, WILKERSON, WYLIE - My most remote (known) PANTER/PAINTER ancestor was John. He seems to appear in old Surry/Sussex Counties, VA (Sussex taken from Surry in 1754) about the same time as his his Parish Rector, the Rev. William WYLIE/WILLIE (c.1738). Rev. Wylie, and Parishioners John Panter, Nathaniel DUNCAN, William WILKERSON and others appeared in old Surry/Sussex about the same time, could have immigrated from near Aberdeen Scotland together. John Painter's wife was Mary (KING?) their known children were Richard and Samuel (twins) and Elizabeth. My ancestor Richard Painter m. Agnes Duncan, the daughter of Nathaniel, c. 1770. Their children were John, Wyatt, Nancy and Nathaniel. Wyatt, my ancestor was b. 13 Apr. 1774, in Sussex Co. VA. By 1776 Richard Painter and some of his relatives, the Duncans and Wilkersons, had migrated to Orange/Caswell/Person Co. NC. Richard died there in 1781. There were several marriages in Orange/Caswell/Person between the Painter/Panters of Sussex Co. VA and the descendants of Daniel CLAYTON, who hailed from Hanover/Goochland Counties, VA. Daniel's sons and daughters, were same generation, contemporaries of Richard and Agnes Painter. Daniel's wife was Ann (CLARKE?) their sons were John, Daniel, Thomas and Richard. Their daughters were Rebeccah and (Elizabeth?). Richard and Agnes' son Wyatt m. Betsey Clayton, granddaughter of Daniel, daughter of Daniel and Ann's oldest son John Clayton, Sr. Writer would like to know more about the early immigration of Scots to Surry Co. area. Should be very interesting.
