MRS. CHARLES GREEVER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Charles H. Greever, who died at her home in
Burke's Garden, Monday, were conducted by Rev. E. H. Copenhaver, of Marion, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at Central Church, where a large number of people gathered to pay tribute.  The memory of Mrs. Greever will be cherished by a host of friends.  She spent the latter years of her life in service to the poor, sick and needy, by whom she will be saddly missed.  Mrs. Greever was 80 years of age and had been married 60 years.  Before marriage she was a Miss Hedrick, daughter of the late Adam Hedrick, and had been a life long resident of Tazewell county, having spent her entire married life in Burke's Garden.  She is survived by her husband, 85 years of age, and two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Lewis and Miss Clara Greever, of Burke's Garden and one brother, Samuel Hedrick, of this county.  Among those away attending the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Waddey Hankla, of Rural Retreat; Rev. and Mrs. E. H. Copenhaver, Miss Ida Greever, of Marion; D. B. Spracher, Peter Ritter, T. Spracher, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kale, Mrs. Will Tiller, George F. Mahood, Clarence Mahood, Bluefield, Va. Robert Mahood, Mr and Mrs. J.T. Suiter, of Bluefield, WV.; Mrs. G. B. Maxwell, Falls Mills, and Herbert Hedrick.

May 11, 1928 -- Pounding Mill

Mr. Will Hankins and sister, Miss Narcie, of Richlands, call on their aunt, Mrs. W. B. Steele this pm.

Mr. W.W. Safewright of Roanoke, joined his wife here on Saturday, returning Sunday night.  Guests of their grandmother, Mrs. Martha Sparks.

Dr. and Mrs. Rex Steele and Miss Mary Bruster went to Tazewell Monday, for their son, Billie, who had been away for 2 months.  He is 16 months old today.  Mrs. Steele came home Saturday night and is gaining strength after 2 months sickness.

Mr. and Mrs. Noah Comptons house burned Monday night between 9 and 10 o'clock.  The roof was falling in when discovered.  Lost everything except a few dishers.  They occupied the Becca Davis house in the Daughten
Hollow, near top of Smith Ridge.

Mr. Milton Harris, Pounding Mill Branch, was a visitor here Tuesday.  He is an old soldier and will be 86 years old June 15th.

Mrs. and Mrs. James Hunter, (nee Miss Ollie Kate Gillespie) of West Va. visited parents Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hunder and sister, Miss Mary B. Gillespie and brothers, F. O. and Poose, the past weekend.

Malcolm Trayer, Bristol, visited his father, C. H. Trayer and family, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Steele on Sunday had the following relatives to call:  Mr. and Mrs. Grat Steele and son, John, a Richlands H. S. Senior; Charlie Steele, Jr., all of Paint Lick; Mr. and Mrs. John B. Gillespie and
daughters, Cedar Bluff.

May 11 1928 -- Richlands

Henry Hess, aged 35 was instantly killed on Saturday about 4 o'clock at Jewell Ridge, when the car in which he was riding went over an embankment.  Mr. Hess and two other miners had finished their night shift and had got
in the car and started home, the driver was attempting to turn the machine when he got too close to the edge, thus turning over, pinning Hess against a stump.  The other two occupants of the car escaped injuries by jumping.  Hess is survived by a wife and eight children, eldest 18 years and the youngest 3 months.  Funeral was held at the home Monday and the burial was in the Hankins cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Atwell were shopping in Bluefield Monday.

Robert Reedy, a young man, who worked in the mines at Glen Burke, was severely injured in the mines on May 1st, by a slate fall and was rushed to Mattie Williams Hospital, but died early Friday morning.  Funeral and
burial in the West Fork cemetery near Richlands.

One of the prominent affairs of the season was the picnic given by the junior class in honor of the senior class of Richlands H.S. Saturday evening about 6:30 pm, at the Old Fort Witten, at Pisgah.  The classes were chaperoned by the high school faculty.  They left town about 6pm in trucks and cars.  All kinds of palatable food, such as ham, chicken, tomatoes and hamburgers, sandwiches, pickles, cake, etc., was served to the honoring guests: Misses Ella Altizer and Gladys Altizer, Margaret DeBord, Mary White, Pearl Wilson, Audrey Steele, Cleo Orr, Jennie Marshall, Gladys Wygal, Nannie Belle Gillespie and Messrs Leonard Cole, Robert Childress, Dan Blankenship, Sam Gillespie, Tom Liddle, Ben Thompson, Glenn Shrader, Therman West, Clarence McGlothlin, John Alex Steele, Lawrence Ringstaff, Raymond Johnson and Selbourne Orr, the Senior class of 1928, also the following teachers, Prof. Hicks, Prof. and Mrs. Six and Miss Dingass.

Mrs. Zeigler and Mrs. M. H. McGuire were visiting in Bluefield on Tue.

Mrs. I.O. Perkins and George Hurt, Cedar Bluff, were here Tue.

Jun 29, 1928 --

Richlands - June 27 - Allen Johnson, who was injured two weeks ago while working with the telephone company near Richlands, is still a patient in the Mattie Williams Hospital, and is getting along nicely.

Mrs. Eli Griffith continues to be very ill at her home on Tazewell St.

Mr. and Mrs. H.V. Lindsey and children were guests of friends at Rural Retreat over the weekend.

Mrs. Grover Marshall, who under went an operation at the Mattie Williams hospital last week, is getting along nicely. 

BOONEY CASEY -- Booney Casey, age 90 years, died at his home at Raven Monday night, from complicated troubles, due to old age.  Funeral was held at the home today at one o'clock and interment in the Ball Cemetery.  He is survived by his wife and several children.  He was the step father of Mrs. John Joyce of this place.

Jun 29, 1928 -- Pounding Mill

Pounding Mill, Va. June 27 - Miss Ester Lawson, of Maxwell, spent the weekend with Miss Jannie Ringstaff.

Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Lowe and daughters, Geraldine, Gennette and Louise, Cedar Bluff, spent the weekend with parents, Mrs. Reece Ringstaff and family.

Miss Luella Myers spent the weekend with Miss Grace Henkle, Bandy.  

Mrs. Sarah Suefringe, of Bristal, Va. is visiting her neice, Mrs. D. H. Mann.

Mrs. A.W. Griffith, of Richlands, was dinner guest at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.T. Ringstaff, on Sunday.

Mrs. John Asbury was able to be out on Friday, after being confined to her home for some time.

Anna Lee, Geraldine and Gladys Thomas left Saturday for Huntington, where they will spend the summer with their autn, Mrs. Lee Wuass.

Mrs. C.H. Trayer and daughter, were shopping in Bluefield Wednesday. 

Misses Gennie, and Mildred Beavers, Tuella Myers, Grace Henkle motored to Honaker Sunday.

Messrs Carl Ringstaff and Robert Craig atterded the show in Bluefield, WV. Saturday night.

Aug 3, 1928 --

Mr. and Mrs. John B. Gillespie and daughters visited their parents, Mr. John F. Gillespie and daughters on Sunday.  They all picnicked at Mr. Gillespie's old home near the Bogle place in Baptist Valley.

Mr. Henry Christian went to Portsmouth Saturday night to see his aunt, Mrs. E. E. Hall, who is very ill of paralysis, returning Monday.

Mrs. Martha Sparks visited Mrs. Sallie Joyce, Doran, on Friday.

Mrs. James H. Johnson visited her aunt, Mrs. Eli Griffith, Friday.

Mrs. W. B. Steele of the 50 year club, attended John Robinson's Circus Monday, her 15th circus, all free.  Many were disappointed that the picture was not taken.  About 175 belong.  Mr. R. B. Witt, Paint Lick, joined the club, he attended 60 years ago at the age of 12 years.

Misses Lou Ella Myers and Anna Riley left this a.m. for Roanoke to visit the latter's aunt, Mrs. H. C. Osborne.

Mrs. S.W. Gabriel, Richlands, visited Mrs. Maidie Ingle last week.  Mrs. Ingle is some better.

Miss Lou Ella Myers spent Saturday night and Sunday with Miss Nancy sparks, Baptist.

Mrs. Martha Sparks, Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Sparks and daughter, Miss Ruth, Miss Ruth Ringstaff and Mr. Norman Sparks visited Mrs. G. A. Maxwell at the latter's sisters, Mrs. Ben Morgan's, first of the week, before she
left for her home in Clearwater Fla.

Mrs. Joe Asbury and daughter, of Bluefield WV. spent the day Wednesday with the formers brother J. G. Asbury.

Bud and Charles Patrick and daughter, Elizabeth of Chatham Hill, attended the funeral of their sister and aunt, Mrs. John Asbury on Tuesday.

Miss Helen Lake Bottimore was hostess to a few of her friends with a dinner party at her home in West Tazewell on Thursday evening.  The guests were:  Miss Frances Barrett, John Mastin, Maurey Barrett, Mrs. Sidney
Higginbotham.

Mr. J. B. Caudill has been having a pleasant visit with friends and relatives in Glade Springs, Little Valley, and other points.

Mrs. John Hoops left Wed. to enter the Bluefield Sanitarium for an operation.

Miss Alverta Greever was guest of her sister, Mrs. Howard Sale, Lynchburg, last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Miller, of Norfolk, are here on a visit to Mrs. Miller's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Whitley.

Miss Ollie Kate Brittain and sister, Mrs. Alex St. Clair, Buddy Brittain and Barnes Gillespie Jr. are on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Lewis, Bethany, W.V.

Mrs. Joseph Rosenbaum entertained with a bridge luncheon, complimentary to the Senior Bridge Club, at her home on Friday afternoon.  A number of guests enjoyed the hospitality of Mrs. Rosenbaum.

Mrs. C. B. Dickenson, wife of the North Tazewell minister, is spending several days in Lee county.

Mrs. Sada Whitley Shelton and children, Bluefield Va., spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rees Whitley at North Tazewell.

Mr. J.N. Harman Jr., well known attorney of Welch, W.V. son of Mr. and Mrs. J.N Harman, of Tazewell, is recovering rapidly from an operation in a Richmond hospital.  The operation was performed this week.

Mr. C.L Alexander, of Graham, was a business visitor here on Thursday.

JANE GILLESPIE.  Mrs. Jane Gillespie, aged widow of the late Thomas Gillespie, died at the home of a granddaughter in Pearisburg on Wed. The remains were interred here on yesterday afternoon.  Brief funeral services were held at the cemetery.
