January 8, 1932 -- Pounding Mill

Mr. and Mrs. P.F Howell and Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Glover, Tazewell, visited Dr. and Mrs. Rex Steele here recently.

Mr. and Mrs. W.H. McGee and son, Billy, spent the holidays with parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Foster in East Radford. Their relatives, Mrs. D.L. Basham and Miss Elizabeth Gillespie of Roanoke returned home with them for a visit.

A large number of Moose Lodge members from here attended the burial of Henry Yates, Russell county deputy sheriff, at Honaker, recently. Among those who attended from here were: Mr. and Mrs. Clabe Cochran, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Robinette and sons, David and Samuel, Raymond and Fred Johnson, Tommy and Willis Ringstaff, A.O. Hilt, S.E. Sykes, Mr. Elswick, Clytus Elswick and family, Andy and Tom Mulkey and Bill Mack Sparks, and perhaps others.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Thomas gave a shower at their home Wednesday night of last week, in honor of their nephew and his bride, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith, of Portsmouth, Ohio, who were married at Greenup, Ky., on Dec. 5th. There was a large crowd at the shower and many beautiful presents were received. The bride was Miss Sallie Sayler before marriage

Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Trayer and Kitty, Bluefield, Va. spent the day recently with Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Trayer

Mr. and Mrs. James Mulkey and son Opie, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis McGee have returned from a visit to their daughter and sister, Mrs. Earnest Jones and family.

Jan 8, 1932 -- Paintlick

Pounding Mill, R.F.D, Jan 7 - Mrs. R.M. Mulkey and daughters, Ruth and  Evelyn, Mrs. Hunter, Bluefield, W.Va., and Mrs. Jane Green were dinner guests Wednesday of Mrs. W.S. Witt and daughters.

Mrs. Georgie Ascue had as her dinner guests Tuesday, Mr. and MRs. J.L Ascue and family, Mrs. Margie Ascue and daughters, Mrs. J.A. Vernon and sister, Gladys Payne.

John Alec Steele has returned to school at Roanoke, after spending the holidays with homefolks.

Mrs. W.S. Witt and two daughters, and grandson spent Friday night with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Puckett, Thompson Valley.

March 11, 1932 -- 

MRS. LEFFEL PAINFULLY BURNED -- Mrs. Leffel, mother of Mrs. Grat M. Mullin, and who is making her home here with her daughter, was painfully burned Wednesday morning when her clothing caught fire from an open stove. The lady was standing with her back to the stove and apparently closer to the burning coal then she thought. It is said that the lower part of her body was parched before the fire could be extinguished. Her condition is giving her family and friends much concern.

Update - As the news is put to press Thursday at 2 o'clock, reports from the bedside of Mrs. Leffel indicate that she is in a dying condition and may not survive the afternoon.

March 11, 1932 -- Raven

Mrs. W. Arnett McGlothlin, West Raven, who was seriously injured by a cow rearing upon her, crushing her to the ground last week, is reported some better at present, but still unable to walk or use her lower limbs.

July 18, 1932 -- Healing springs

Mr. Kelly Wright and family were in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Troy wright, Sunday

Mrs. Austin Peery is quite ill.

Mrs. Galate, of Bluefield, was a recent visitor here.

Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Connelly's great grand child, of Yukon, died there last week.  The funeral service was conducted in the M.E. church on Stony Ridge.

Mr. and Mrs. Stafford, also Mr. and Mrs. Fred Connelly, of Roanoke, were visiting the home of their parents, last week.

Aug 5, 1932 --

Emma Younce, fourteen years old, of Cavitts Creek, committed suicide Monday afternoon by shooting herself through the abdomen.  Death came instantly.  She was a sister of B. Younce, who met a tragic death some
months ago.  So far as is known there was no cause for Emma Younce killing herself.  She was a student here the past year at the Tazewell High School, and was well liked by her associates.  The funeral service took place Tuesday afternoon, and was in charge of Dr. Arrowood, of the Presbyterian church.

J.W. Gillespie, of Burke's Garden, is in the Bluefield Sanitarium suffering from knife wounds said to have been inflicted by Roach Pauley who is in jail here charged with the crime.  From information coming to
officials here it is believed that Gillespie's wounds resulted from a general fight in the Garden, and that liquor was probably the cause of the difficulty.

Mont Bolt shot and killed Otis Coleman in Abbs Valley Saturday afternoon.  Little information on the shooting is available here.  So far as is known no causes have been assigned.  Coleman was a brother in law of Bolt and both resided in the house.

Claude Nipper is alleged to have shot Jeff Myers just outside the church at Pounding Mill, the shooting being the outcome of a dispute between the men over alleged remarks one of them made about the other's sister.  Myers is in the Richlands hospital.  Dr. Williams thinks he will recover from his wounds.

Sam Hammet was given a preliminary hearing Monday, charged with shooting john Boling. The affair occurred at Dry Town several weeks ago.

Henry Neal, of Bluefield, Va. was held for the grand jury in a preliminary hearing given here Wednesday.  He is charged with setting fire to the house of C. L Munsey.

Sep. 16, 1932 --

MRS. J.W. Guillion -- The death of Mrs. J.W. Gullion occurred at her home near Tip Top on last
Thursday evening, after an illness from complications.  Her husband preceded her to the grave several years ago.  She is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Dora Proffit, of Independence; Mrs. Mae
Catron and Mrs. Maude Puckett, Otto and Kelly Gullion, all of Tip Top.  Interment was made in Maple Hill cemetery.
