Would like to communicate with Wills family researchers regarding the origins and descent of JOHN
WILLS who married ELIZABETH ROBERTS HARWOOD, widow of THOMAS HARWOOD. The family seems to have
fluctuated between Mulberry Island or Warwick and York County, Virginia. I believe that their son
JOHN WILLS whose birth of 29 November 1705 was registered in the Charles Parish Records of York
County, was the same JOHN WILLS who settled in Bertie County North Carolina in 1730/40s. John of
Bertie had a son, MILES WILLS, who administered John's estate in 1762/64.
I am looking for information on the LOWRY family. They were reported in the Newport News area
about 1899 to about 1904. Francis (Frank) LOWRY was married to Lida BAYLISS and had the following
children: Jessica, James, Gracie Alice, William Bayliss, and the twins Huck and Chuck. The
children were born in Newport News. It is believed that Frank's parents, Capt. William B. LOWRY
(of the 101st PA Vol. Inf.) and Cassandra Hennon, were in the area in the same time period.
William and Cassandra were originally from Beaver Co., PA. They lived for a while in Youngstown,
OH before they moved to Virginia. Capt. William died in Chesterfield Co., VA. Cassandra Hennon
died in Richmond, VA. There is also the rumor that there were relations that owned the Hotel
Roanoke in Roanoke,VA. The relations lost the family fortune during the Panic of 1890.
Searching for descendants of Stephen BURGESS listed in VA Quit Rent Rolls, 1704, with 128 acres
in Warwick County. Searching for ancestors of Samuel Josiah BURGESS, born 1766, VA.
I am looking for more information on Christopher and Elizabeth Reynolds and their family.
Christopher and Elizabeth arrived at Warwick County in 1622 on the ship "John and Francis" and
settled on 450 acres (patent made 15 Sep 1636.) I do not know Elizabeth's maiden name or what
happened to any of the children - Abbasha, Christopher, Jane, John, Richard, and Thomas - except
for Christopher who is my ancestor. I do have this branch of the Reynolds family traced back to
1550, and will gladly share info.
My grandparents: William Henry Radcliffe and Mary Jane Piver moved to Newport News VA in early
1900's (some time after 1905) and then moved to Warwick County in the 1920's. My grandfather
built their home on Turlington Road and later moved to Morrison where he ran a store. Would
appreciate help from someone who has information on the Denbigh Baptist Church burial records.
Specifically looking for information regarding their son Major Radcliffe who was buried in the
church burial grounds. Also any other family information. Their children: Martha Agusta (Hulten);
Evelyn (Trevillian); Major; William T.; Rodman C; and Julian D. Only two are surviving: Evelyn
and Julian.
Thomas C. Powell b. 1862, lived at Newport news with wife Lucy S (Sarvent?). He was the son of
Thomas J. Powell b. 1835 & Martha, who were of York Co. Any links appreciated
I have been searching for information on my Grandparents on my father's side. They are William
HALEY and Georgia Candas Asberry HALEY. They lived in Warwick County during the early 1900's, as
far as I can tell. My father, Richard Ward Paul Haley was born in Warwick County in 1907. He had
1 brother, William Claude Haley and 3 sisters, Sybil HALEY Wray, Estelle HALEY Sawyer and Georgia
Mae HALEY Pulley. Haley's originated from County Cork, Ireland and my grandmother was 1/2
Cherokee Indian. They ran a Boarding House at 211-49th St., in Newport News during WW II. Georgia
Candas HALEY died in 1959 and is buried at Greenlawn Memorial Park, in Newport News. Supposedly
there is a Haley family plot there, but I have no way to get there to visit it. I would
appreciate any info anyone could give me. My parents were divorced when I was quite young and I
know very little of my Paternal grandparents. I would love to be able to trace their fammilies
further back than I have.
