I still have copies of the reprint of ''WILLIAM LAWSON, A SCOTTISH REBEL'' and Other Pioneer Families of Southern Appalachia. The book is well documented, index, hardcover and with the addendum section now has 548 pages.
William Lawson was born in 1731 Montrose, Scotland and died in 1826 Scott County, Virginia. His life was long and turbulent. He fought the Brittish in his homeland and also in the American Revolution. Chapter one gives more detail about his turbulent life. The addendum section has an article on his homeland and the events that led up to the Battle of Culloden (1746) and it's terrible aftermath which resulted in William's imprisonment and being transported to the colonies.
His children led exciting lives also. His son, Travis Lawson, moved to Kentucky. A son, William Lawson, Jr., was a Methodist minister and lived in Scott County, VA. Another son, Rev. Jeremiah Lawson and others, pioneered the Methodist movemnt in wilderness Kentucky, Missouri and Ohio. You will read the Methodist Circut Rider's own words about this movement. A son, Robert Lawson, moved to Claiborn County, TN. Two known daughters were Sarah and Betsy Ann Lawson. Sarah married Henry Wood and lived in Scott County, VA. Betsy Ann married William Canterberry (bury) and moved to Sevier County, TN. There are possible children mentioned in the addendum as well as other articles.
