The following document was found folded into the Account Book of John S. Bralley (1797-1866) which is now part of the Southwest Virginia Counties Collection of the Special Collections Division of the Library of Virginia Polytechnic University at Blacksburg, Virginia [Ms. 2000-092.] It was copied in person by Edgar M. "Russ" Bralley from the original on Friday, April 6th, 2002. Bralley's Account Book records business transactions, as well as incidental information about family members and neighbors during the period circa 1830 to 1856. Apparently he had used the book originally when he was a student of a Mr. Tevey in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1815. The handwriting of the document below appears to be consistent with that of Rev. Robert S. Sheffey, well-known Methodist preacher, exhorter, schoolmaster and beloved eccentric in the Porter's Cross Roads neighborhood.
