
Dr. Eli PERRY, 2nd, was the grandson
of the Abner PERRY who commanded a regiment in the expedition to Rhode
Island, 1780. Abner was also a member of the General Court from Holliston,
MA, where he had been born. Eli's father, Dr. Eli PERRY, Senior, married
Rhoda FAIRBANK of Holliston, MA on Mar 10, 1785. Dr. PERRY
& wife Rhoda were living in Wardsboro, VT, by the time of the birth
of their first child, Hadassah in 1786.
The second Dr. Eli PERRY was born in
Wardsboro, VT around 1790. Educated in Buffalo, NY; he went to Ryegate
in 1820, where he taught school to nearly 100 pupils. He studied
medicine with Drs. Marcus ROBBINS, Chester THAYER, and Shelamath HALL.
They were educated in the office and practice of Dr. Paul WHEELER.
He began practicing at the Corner in 1825. Being the first settled
physician in Ryegate, he continued his practice until near his death.
A member of the Covenanter Church at the Corner, he later became one of
the charter members of the Ref. Presbyterian Church at South Ryegate.
He was the precentor for over 40 years, at first lining out the psalm line-by-line,
later two lines at a time. When psalm books came into popular use,
this ancient practice was discontinued. Dr. PERRY built and occupied a
house, in Ryegate, which was sold to Charles L. ADAMS.
He married his first wife, Azubah,
daughter of Hezehiah WETHERBEE of Grafton, VT and granddaughter of
Colonel Enoch HALE of Hinsdale, NH on Oct. 30, 1825. She died in November
1837. A little over three years later, he married Margaret, the daughter
James HALL, on March 9, 1841.

Franklin, born July 25, 1827 married Amelia PRATT. They resided in
Wisconsin.
Mary
born September 28, 1829 married La Fayette FLYNN, who later homesteaded
in Redwood Falls, MN, purchasing land there Aug. 20, 1885. Their
daughter, Kate Azubah, married Rollin B. LANE in Bucktooth, NY. Rollin
LANE was from Utica, Winnebago Co., WI. They lived in Hollywood,
CA.
Rhoda,
born June 29, 1831; married Volance [sometimes written as Valenca or Volence]
ORR in 1848 and died the following year.
Appleton,
was born February 6, 1836. On 1 February 1870, he married, Jane,
the daughter of Deacon John SMITH, and the widow of N. K. LAUGHLIN. They
both died in E. Montpelier, he on July 13, 1909 and she on November 21,
1889.
Ralph
GIBSON,
born June 15, 1876, studied medicine for three years at the Medical Dept.,
U.V.M. Burlington; then one year at Baltimore, (Maryland) Medical College,
graduating in 1901. He practiced in Jarvisville, WVA for 10 years,
then returned to practice in Wells River, VT. Ralph's wife, Minnie Asenath,
daughter of Horace Homer and Almira S. HOLLISTER of Plainfield, VT graduated
from the Mary Fletcher Hospital Training School for Nurses at Burlington,
VT in 1899.
Mary
Anna,
b. June 29, 1871; lived in Barnet, VT. Never married.
William
John,
born October 20, 1872, who worked as a mechanic at the Fairbanks Scale
Works, St. Johnsbury; then for Henry Ford. He married Louise DONAHOE on
November 17, 1897. Resided in Highland Park, MI.
