Horace
FAIRBANKS was born 21 March, 1820 and was a son of Erastus. He was the
president of the corporation of E. & T. Fairbanks & Co., also President
of the First National Bank of St. Johnsbury, VT. He was Governor of Vermont
in 1876-1878. In 1870 he presented to the town the public library and art
gallery known as "The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum" containing 10,000 volumes
and carefully selected works of art. He was a trustee of the University
of Vermont and Andover Seminary.
