Hon. Samuel
Decatur HOBSON was born in Hollis, Maine, October 5, 1830, a son of Samuel
and Hannah [Sawyer] Hobson. He is in the seventh generation from William
Hobson, an early settler of Rowley, Mass, who emigrated from England about
the middle of the seventh [seventeenth] century, about 1626. He
married Mary E., daughter of Eben and Sarah [Haley] Sawyer of Hollis Me.
in January of 1854. Their children are Harry Howard, Helen M., John E.,
Eugene F., Sarah M., Albion W., Mary C., and Elsie G. An entrepreneur,
he owned S.D. Hobson & Sons manufacturers of lumber, clapboards, laths
and shingles.
