Another ancestor, Othneil Preston was wounded in the
Battle of Bennington on the
16th of Aug. 1777 and taken to Eusopus jail.
His wife, Anna Love Preston, a "woman of great courage", took a "4-year
old colt and went to the prison and put him (Othneil) on the colt's back.
After she had started. she looked back and the prison was on fire."
He lived four weeks after reaching home and was buried at White Creek,
NY.
