Intro
The results are not perfect: although the census data is generally easy to read, there were many situations where it was difficult or impossible to read the data: not having access to the original data (which no longer exists) means that there will always be some level of uncertainty. In general, though, I don't think that the results are any worse than what I've seen from "professional" indicies that I have purchased in the past and I suspect that many people will find the index useful.
What is in the index
This index contains all heads of households and everyone in a household that had a different
last name from the head of the household.
data into the index. The data is in alphabetical order for the entire county.
The data comes from one reel of microfilm: T626-2428. The Franklin
county data is split across two volumes: 5 (which also contains part of Chittenden county)
and 6. Each line of the index gives the following data:

The index data takes up
a fair amount of space. To keep each page fairly reasonable in size, I have
broken up the data into smaller chunks, based on the starting letters of the last name.
